Felted Sparkly Bag (Thanks, KUSINE!)

Recommended Posts

I made this bag using this pattern from the LB website, a K hook, and LB Fisherman's wool (needed 2sk - one for the bag and part of another for the handles). It worked up really fast and I love the end result!

Alteration to pattern: I added 5 rows to the end of each side of the handle (10 extra total). Since it was going to be felted I wanted to make sure I still had enough space to sling it over a shoulder. Worked perfectly.

This was my project that I promised to do in order for Kusine to send me one of her beautiful sparklies.

After dying and 2nd washing:

The plan (once I get a hand-sewing needle so I can attach the sparkly):

Thanks, everyone!

what did you use to dye it with?

I used RIT dye (got it at Wal-Mart in the laundry aisle).

So you dyed after making it? Interesting.... I was wondering how that would work, but figured you'd need a really big pot and lots of kool aid.

Yep. I wasn't sure how much of the skeins it was going to take and I didn't want to dye all of the yarn that color if I didn't have to so I waited. Also one of the reasons I opted for actual dye instead of koolaid (wanted it to be uniform in color). I just soaked it in a plastic tub for about 10-15min and then dumped it (and the dye) into the washing machine.

did you use the kitchen cotton for this? what else could you use?

I used Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool with a K hook for it since I wanted to felt it. The pattern calls for kitchen cotton and, I think an H hook(?). I would think you could use pretty much any yarn for it - this one is just a bit smaller than the one on the pattern page since it's felted.
