Greetings all!

All you Texas folk....I sure do hope you are ok!!!

Just a quick pop in to say hi....Sunday night at 4am my mother in law woke up with chest pain. She's resting in hospital now. So far tests show that she did have a small heart attack and she has pneumonia. My hubs had just seen his mom like 12 hours earlier and she was fine. No hint of being sick! Still running tests but at least she is comfortable.

Gotta pack my crochet bag. I'm taking a shift of sitting with her this evening so I better shake a leg!

Take care everyone!!!!

I wanted to ask if anything in your flower beds is coming up yet ? I know you have a green thumb and have lots of beautiful plants in your yard and you love gardening . We used to have lots of spring flowers, daffodils, tulips and the little purple ones ... but most of them have died off . I think they need replaced every so many years, dont they ?

I'm not much of a flower expert, but it seems that the flowers like that only get flowers for a few years, then the only thing coming up after that are the green leaves . I'm probably doing something wrong with them ,but we hardly have any left at all. It could also be the squirrels or something .I know we planted new bulbs one year but went out later and found some dug up ,so I'm guessing it was squirrels.

We really need to do something pretty with our front yard. It is so plain . We have one of the white -barked trees that is dying,so it needs cut down too . I'm not sure what to put out there ,but something easy to take care of that grows well on its own .

Quite a few things are up. Hyacinths, crocuses and daffodils are pretty much done. Tulips are up, but no blooms yet. Last falls pansies are blooming again, (I was surprised by this), as are the primroses. I also have some tiny blue flowers that grow from bulbs and are pretty carefree. I "stole" them from the roadside a few years back when they were widening the road. I figured if I didn't take them, they'd be killed anyhow. I don't know what they are though

Lots of bulbs seem to fade away over the years. Tulips are especially bad for this. The only bulbs I have that are pretty good about coming back are daffodils. I have quite a bit of luck with irises as well, but those are mostly grown from tubers. Daffodil bulbs are poisonous to many animals, so they pretty much leave them alone. I've heard that animals love tulip bulbs.

If you want a nearly foolproof flowering shrub, I suggest "Annabelle " hydrangeas. I got a start from my father in law when they sold their house, and over the years, I have transplanted shoots from that plant into 4 different places and my daughter has also planted them at both of the houses they have owned. It blooms on both new and old wood, you can let it grow without any attention at all except regular watering, a of fertilizer, (although I never bother), or you can cut it back in the fall, and keep it a bit more controlled. Either way it will bloom like mad all summer. Mine are a white to ivory flower, that turn a pale lime green later in the season. In the fall you can cut the flowers and let them dry and you will have huge bouquets of ivory colored hydrangeas all winter. Annabelles comes in pink as well, but I only have the white ones, so I don't know if the pink ones are as carefree.

Cindy

I think the hydrangeas you are talking about might be the kind my grandma had in her yard. HUGE big bushes with big off white type flowers on them . I can't remember if they had any scent or not .

Are the blue hydranges hard to grow ? I have planted about 3 of them, and none of them lasted, until the last one I bought at our last house. I paid 20 bucks for it ,and it was a fairly nice sized plant. It is so pretty. I drive by our old house every year to look at it and make sure it's still doing well. I dont know why the others didnt do well, unless it was because I bought them elsewhere ,like a grocery store or some such place .

The best one I bought was from a greenhouse .

I do need to find something to plant like you said that will just grow like crazy with no sppecial care needed for it .

Do those hydranges need sun or shade or either one ?

Julie, I haven't had a lot of luck with my blue hydrangea, although I've seen some beautiful plants in other yards. I think they must be an older species that is no longer popular, because I was told that most of the newer species only bloom on old wood, which means that you need to protect them from extreme cold and snow to keep the buds from freezing.

I do have a species of hydrangea called Endless Summer that is pretty easy to grow. It has blue flowers if you make sure the soil is acidic. Otherwise the flowers are pink. There are a few old houses around here that have huge hydrangea bushes covered with blooms.

My hydrangeas are all planted in sun, but I think some species do well in part shade. And your Grandma's hydrangeas sound like Annabelles.

This is a website devoted to hydrangeas.

Hi House! I was gone most of the day and we've been working in the yard this evening, so I'm just now checking in. :)

Judy ~ Great pictures! I love the dog "square" and the little squares' colors are so pretty together. :hook

Valerie ~ Did you ever reach your Aunt in Burleson? I know they had some really high winds with the storms, so maybe her phones are/were out. :think

DD and SIL will be moving to their temporary apartment tomorrow and Saturday, so Luke will be here tomorrow through Sunday. They're not taking everything - but storing a lot in their garage and two downstairs bedrooms, since they've already been updated. They have TCU football players lined up to load and unload at the apartment...I think DH and I have earned a break from that. :lol So, I think we'll have an Easter Egg Hunt in our yard just for Luke. :)

See you all in the morning. :manyheart

Sabrina- Prayers for your MIL!

Mary- Have fun with Luke and the easter egg hunt!!!

Judy- Funny, I was thinking it was Friday too--oh, well, one more day of work since it wasn't!:lol

Julie- Hope it goes well tomorrow at the migraine doc. How are you feeling? Did you escape Sam's flu?

Marisa- I hope you had fun at the ball game this afternoon, despite the Pirates loss.

Linda- Are you off for three days or just Sat and Sun?

Val- Thanks for checking in while visiting in AL!

My middle DD is coming over tomorrow- she wants to work on her thesis- and wants a quiet place and the library is closed. Both DH and I are working tomorrow. She's going to spend the night and work on her paper again on Saturday! So even though she'll be busy, it'll be nice to have her 'home':manyheart

Off for the night- see you in the AM!

Hi Ladies,

Joanne, It will nice to have DD around even if she is going to be studying. Going to DD's in May gives you something to look forward to while working those long days.

Linda, Maya and DD will be here for Easter dinner. John is something else. Enjoy your Easter Day!

Julie, Hope your feeling better soon. I bet you made the little girls day. Are oldest GS collects legos to. He's into star wars stuff. Hope your feeling up to Cam coming up. Good luck at the doctors tomorrow.

Marisa, I'll remind Maya about the flashlight as they wouldn't have those kind of lights living in an apartment. Her Mom uses candles and Maya don't need to be that close to one. How cute a patient is trying to play matchmaker to. :clap for 3 patients in one day.

Mary, Glad things are okay with you. :clap for not having to help move DD and SIL. We always move DD. Lots of work. Have fun doing the Easter egg hunt with Luke. Were going to take Maya saturday to one up here at the school.

Judy, The doggie blanket is awesome. The ears and collar really set it off. The saltine is looking good to. I like your new cut. It looks good on you.

Cindy, Glad you had an easy day at work. I noticed yellow tulip bloosoms tonight when Maya and I were doing the dishes. We have primroses and daffodils out to.

Sabrina, Prayers for your MIL.

Thanks everyone for not minding the long message from me. I can be long winded. Sometimes my DD will say is there a short version to your story.:lol

I want to ask for prayers for Maya's daycare family (Heather & Kevin) they lost a son. He died last night. He's my DD's age early 30's. Kevin called DD today at work. She doesn't know what happened. I know he has a wife or gf and they have a family together. They recently moved into the townhouses across the street from DD and while they were moving out of there old place someone went in and stole there clothes. They were the last things to be moved and now this. So I will be going to DD's to take care of Maya next week.

I took Maya to the library today and we picked up some books for beginner readers. I asked if they had any and they have lots.

We went and seen Payton and Jocelyn yesterday while DS had a visit with them. Payton wants to come and spend the night but Jocelyn doesn't want to. I told him he has to ask his Mom. I doubt it will happen for a long time. Jocelyn is scared of the dark even though I always leave a night light on just in case the kids wake up. But I was as a kid and can still be scared of the dark so I know how she feels. But I told her she could come and she could sleep with me as I know she sleeps with her Mom. Will see.

DH is still sick and I'm hoping Maya and I don't get it. I'm off for the night. Have a good friday everyone!

Marlene- Prayers for Maya's daycare family--how tragic.! I'm glad though that you will get to spend some more time with Maya! She must be so happy that you are home from TX! I'm glad you got see your other grandchildren too--and maybe the mom will let them stay over. Enjoy your Easter!

We are going to my youngest DD's MIL's house for dinner- a nice relaxing day- and my GS first Easter. He had his pic taken with the Easter bunny yesterday and I can't wait to see them--and actually, I can't wait to see him!!!

Hope you all have a good day!

Good morning. Cold and sunny here today.

Marlene, sorry to hear about the death in Maya's day care family.

My sister in law's dad had heart surgery on Monday and was doing really well until last night, when he took a turn for the worse and he is now in the ICU on a ventilator and on dialysis. I went up there last night and will go again in a little while. When she called me earlier today, the situation sounded quite grim. My sister in law and I are more than just sisters in law. We are very good friends and have become involved in each others families. This coming so soon after my parents deaths is devastating.

Marlene ~ What sad news about Maya's daycare family. I'm so glad you're there for your DD and Maya.

Hi Judy ~ Can't wait to see what you decide for the other squares! Your work is beautiful. :)

DH has to work today, but we're looking forward to having Little Guy here. DD should be here about noon - they can't get the apartment keys until 1:00. I hope to crochet for a while before they get here. :hook

Good afternoon housemates :hi

The Pirates lost yesterday :( We had a great day though. It was an afternoon game so we had our group over before for kegs n eggs. After the game we went to one of the sports bars across the street and I ended up meeting a guy over there!!! He seems pretty nice, but who knows :lol He & his friend did walk back up with us and hung out a while, and he did text when he got home to let me know he got back safe. But, we'll see :think I came in this morning, I had a patient at 9. The guy from last weekend, since he wasn't able to get in during the week. He is doing considerably better and his new goal is to be able to play golf next week because he has a vacation scheduled and doesn't want to miss out, so that's what we're working on now. I already let him know I'm leaving on Wed for the weekend so he'll be coming Tues after work. And of course I gave him stuff to do to focus on the areas he needs to :yes

I don't know if steph has any plans for me tonight, but I know they have a viewing to attend :( I'd like to start putting together my mystery cal ghan over the weekend and it looks like I should get some time to do so.

I feel like I just read through so many tragic events :eek So, I'm sending out a lot of prayers.....Sabrina's MIL :hug Cindy's SIL's dad :hug Maya's daycare family :hug

I may or may not be in over the weekend :think So if not, I hope you all have a wonderful Easter :hug

Hi ladies

First of all may I give out some hugs to those in the House who have so many sad events occurring currently . :hug:hug:hug So sorry to hear about all these things. I'm hoping life gets calmer and better for everyone in here soon .

Joanne

Hope you can find the hydrangeas for yoru yard this spring . Have a nice time with your girl while she's there .Sounds like you have fun Easter dinner plans with family and friends .

Marlene

I bet Maya will have so much fun at the egg hunt this weekend. Cam is too old to go anymore. Steph said she is gonna hide a bunch of eggs in their yard and let Cam help his little sister find hers. He's a good big brother and likes helping her .

So very sorry about the tragedy with the daycare people's son. Such a young age ..

Hope your hubby is on the mend. Sam is still coughing but everything else is gone now .I hope you dont get it too.

Also hope you get to spend a little time with the other grandkids if you can get it worked out with them .

Mary

Enjoy your time with Luke,as I know you will .Hope you got some crafting time in this AM .

Marisa

Oh Boy A New Guy !!! What color is his hair ? No marshmallow fork in his hand ? No grill ? First name ?

Hope this is the one ... Have a fun weekend as I know you will . I cant wait to see one of the new CAL ghans put together. Looked like an interesting pattern .

Cindy

So very sorry to hear of yet another tragedy . :hug

Jude

It's been sunny and pretty here today too .Kind of nippy out,but it LOOKS like it's warm at least .

As for the migraine doc, he wants me to have a sleep study done. He thinks I may have sleep apnea so wants to check for it .He also ordered a new headache preventative to try ,so I need to go get that.

They have to get the sleep study preapproved by insurance before scheduling it . He's very upbeat and says that he will help me, he said to trust him to figure this out and he has other things to try to help me if the first ideas dont,so we shall see. I go back in 2 months to see if the new preventative meds are helping .

What a fun bunch of crap I have to look forward to . Sleep study, appt at the migraince guy,2 days later, appt with the adrenal specialist for my thyroid to see what he will do with it.

August is bloodwork and kidney guy . September is asthma guy and October is mammogram .

In between is trying to figure out how to pay for all this stuff . :(

Hi Judy ~ Can't wait to see what you decide for the other squares! Your work is beautiful. :)

Thank you. No hook time today - but my hands and fingers still hurt - mopped floors and made Greek Spinach pie (came out yummy!)

So sorry to hear about more sad news in your family, Cindy! Big hugs for you and your sis-in-law and family:hug:hug I know what you mean about a sis-in-law being more than that. I have a sis-in-law that is way more like a sister than an in-law. She started dating my brother when she was 16 and he was 17 and have been together ever since! Her family is like my family!

Julie- Sounds like this doc is on top of his game! A sleep study is not a bad idea and if you have sleep apnea, it'd be good to find that out. Glad you reminded me about the mammogram- I was at my doc last week and asked for a script for a mammo- and forgot to schedule it. I'll do that Monday!

Judy- Greek spinach pie sounds delicioius even though I've never had it. I do love spinach though! Did you watch the Yankee game? I was listening on the way home and they had it on at the diner. Sorry to see that Mo blew a save--:(

Marisa- They say that when you least expect it, is when you meet someone! You never know- and hey- it was close to a bbq--hanging out after a ball game at a sports bar is kind of like the same thing! Have a wonderful Easter!

Mary- Enjoy your time with Luke and the easter egg hunt!

To all of my friends here-sending you :hug

DD is here, and when I got home from paradise, we went to the diner for dinner- and have left-overs for tomorrow! She's back to working on her paper and I'm checking in before crocheting for a bit.

Good morning!!! Happy Saturday!!!!

It is nice having my DD here even if she is busy working on her paper. She said she'd be getting up early today to work on it some more---but I have no idea what her definition of 'early' is! I'm hoping to make a run to the store when they open to pick up a basket to put GS's few goodies in.

Off I go to start my laundry- DD brought hers to do, and since I'm up first, I'm starting mine! :lol

It IS yummy!

Yup - Yankees lost - after Robertson got them out of a jam in the 8th.

Do you think Mo stayed on one year too many?

Not much on the agenda today - need to make a run to the mall for a couple of things and then later todaywill be making the Greek style stuffing for tomorrows dinner. I think more reading is in order for today - if not, some more saltine-making!

Have a good one, my friends!:hug:manyheart

Judy- We saw the 7,8 and 9th inning while eating dinner at the diner. Robertson got out of a jam, and yes, I think Mo stayed a year too long- although it's still early in the season, so we'll see!!!

Cindy- Enjoy your time with your DD and GS! Nothing like a little one to take our mind off of things!!

I decided to not get a basket and instead got a sand bucket and a pair of swim trunks and a swim float for 9-24 mos old- it's really cute- and has a canopy and is specifically made for little ones to get them used to the water. I was debating on whether to open the pool, but DH said, "of course we are" (this from someone who hasn't been in the pool since we lived here:think) He said that he wants it open for Ryan! :)

DD is busy working away and she wants to go treat herself to a couple of new tops when she finishes and wants me to go with her. I often reward myself after working really hard (my reward is usually yarn, hers is clothes) Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and great minds think alike!:lol
