Guess what?!!! I finally get to really join in on this CAL! Sweet happystitcher read my post about not being able to buy any yarn right now and offered to send me some from her stash! Yesterday I received her package which contained one skein of cream yarn and one rose-colored yarn. After looking through my scrap box, I found a partial skein of tan yarn that seemed to match well as another contrasting color. (The combination kind of reminds me of neopolitan ice cream colors, so I think I'm going to call this my "Ice Cream Bag." :lol) I'm going through my pattern book right now to decide whether I'll use the standard square from the pattern or a slightly design like others have done. I can't wait to start this! Thanks again to happystitcher for your generousity! I just love the 'Ville! :manyheart

Oh, I almost forgot...here's a picture of the yarn I'll be using! (clicky)

tris4crochet- Love your bags. :yes

Cocoa Cream- Neopolitan colors sound yummy. :D

jessicagil- I like the color of your bag. :)

Just stopping in for a minute. Gotta get ready for my interview. :clap:yes

I applied for a job with AAFES on base and I really hope I get the job. It's a food-service-worker position but it's a foot in the door. I really want a Sales Assoc. position but I'll take anything for now. With the big buildup soon of millitary onisland(mostly marines from japan) they've built a bigger PX so I hope there'll be positions opening soon. I heard it'll be open next month. I really should get off now and get ready. I'm alittle nervouse. Wish me luck ladies. :) I'll let you know the results when I hear back from them.

Can you tell how happy I am? :lol:D:yes I don't know yet if I'll be working at Popeye's or Charleys. They'll call me next week for orientation and to go to the clinic on base for my health certificate. I'll have to get myself hairnets. They might have hats or I could tie my hair back but I'm used to wearing hairnets when I'm working with foods. I'm just so happy. :)

Thanks. :) I just got off the phone with my dh. In a way I can't wait to start and I'm also alittle scared. It's been at least 5 years since I last worked. But I think once I start I'll be okay.)

Count me in too. This bag has been on my personal "I want it" list for a long time. I know the cotton I want to use for it is around here somewhere. Just might take me a bit longer than everyone else. I'll work on it here & there between promised projects. I only have 3 weeks to finish 3 shawls for my son's wedding..........EEKS!!

Well everyone so far I have made 2 of these bags, one for myself in all white and one for my 4 year old. She saw the bag and automatically wanted one for herself. Though all she does with it is pretend to be a mailman....lol. I have no sewing skills so I had my MIL line them and she graciosly added a small change pocket inside.

I love seeing everyone's bags! I was inspired to start my own, but no matter which solid granny square pattern I use, I always end up with a yucky looking hole where my join is. After the last dc, sl st into ch 3... always the same instructions, and I always get a hole! Any tips on how to avoid a hole???

I haven't actually tried the pattern square for this bag, but I know that on other projects sometimes I chain 2 instead of 3 in order to avoid a hole. Sometimes the chain 3 is too long and doesn't stay tight against the other stitches.

Is that what's happening to you?

If so, try chaining 2 instead of 3 and see if that helps....

Good luck! :cheer

Yes, that is exactly what is happening, drives me crazy! Thanks for the tip :)

I too hate holes. I only chain 1 at the corners and I don't have any holes. That's the way I like it. :)

I am loving this bag, I work in an inbound call center and sometimes in the evenings there is time between calls, during this time I like to crochet as we are not allowed to have paper on the floor. Making squares is the perfect way to use up some of this time as it doesn't require an intricate pattern to lose your place in when a call comes in. Now I have something to do with the squares other than 'yet another' afghan.

Love your bags. Your daughters bag is very pretty. How big did you make the squares for her bag?

Thank you guys...

Smuchez your bags are great - i especially like the all white one. My next one is going to be all one color --- i think. They look dressier in a solid color.

Keesha I like the colors you used - i think i'm gonna make mine only 12 squares too.

I'd love to make this one. However, I don't know if I can assemble it. I've looked at the pattern a few times, and always backed away due to assembly. I think, if I make it all in one solid color, and trim with another solid color, I may be able to make sense of it for the next bag. Have you had better success as far as stregth and durability using cotton yarn or acrylic? I want to gift this one and would like to be sure it will stand up to some heavy usage.

The squares are about 4 1/2" and I only did 8 of them. The bag looks sort of like an adult shoulder bag so it fits like a tote to a small child.

Thank you everyone for the kind words about my bag it brings me so much joy!:D
