2017 Stashbusting CAL

This is a continuation of last year's game. With the start of the new year, you get to start with ZEROS for your point scores. If you want, keep your 2016 score in your signature to remind you to "Do Better".

Here are the general rules:

Please sign up to this thread. I will be putting all the names at the end of this post so that we know who's playing.

Also, please put a line in your signature for Stashbusting score. Example: WTD=+5 YTD=+27.

Please post your scores by Midnight on Saturday, so that the scorekeeper can pick them up. Shortly after that, the scorekeeper will be tallying the scores and posting them on Sunday.

Please make your score easy to be seen. Large numbers and pretty colors really help.

Example:

WTD=+7 YTD=-9

WTD= week to date and YTD = Year to date.

First (gold), second (silver) and third (bronze) will be noted on the scorekeeping list on Sunday, along with all the other scores. If you have the largest total in receiving yarn and not using it up, it is called the "Shoot the Moon" award.

The "Shoot the Moon" winner from the previous week will be responsible for posting the scores the following week. If the "Shoot the Moon" winner is not available to post the scores, please contact greyhoundgrandma as early as possible so that scores can be posted in a timely manner.

The scorekeeper should post by 12 noon Eastern Time on Sunday. If it will be posted at another time, due to work, church, etc., please notify the group so that they will know when to expect their scores.

Scorekeeping

For every skein of yarn you use up completely, you get two (2) points.

For every skein of yarn that you roll into a ball, you get one (1) point.

For every ball of yarn you use up, you get one (1) point.

For every skein of yarn you buy, receive, or inherit, you lose two (2) points.

For every ball of yarn you buy, receive, or inherit, you lose one (1) point.

A skein of yarn is a brand new bundle that you have bought at a store or its equivalent. If you roll it into smaller cakes or balls, it will still count as two (2) points when you use them completely. You count points for yarn that you use in crocheting, knitting, crafting or give away.

This is an on-going CAL. Feel free to join at any time!

When you start playing with us for the first time, you DON'T COUNT what's in your stash. For many of us, that would be impossible. You get points when you use up what's in your stash or lose points when you add to your stash.

Your first scores will be posted January 7th, and the first list of scores will be posted on January 8th for the week ending on January 7th.

If you have any questions just post them to the thread.

Good luck with your stashbusting!

I'll add you to the list as soon as I'm back on my desk top, Holly. I'm always hopeful at the first of the year. If only I could avoid/resist sales. I already know I'll have to buy yarn for at least three projects but maybe I can work from my stash after that.

Count me in again! I have a TON of yarn to go through, including all the yarn I bought when our beloved LYS Creative Fibers went out of business in September. I know I say this every year, but I'm going to make a concerted effort to NOT buy anything new!

I'm actually really happy with my YTD being only -12 for 2016! My goal for 2017 is to only buy for specific projects thoughout the year, with the exception of the Spinrite Tent Sale in May (which Hubs has agreed to set aside a nice chunk of our tax return for lol). I'm hoping to end in the positives this year!

Since I got the Shoot the Moon with the last week of 2016, am I posting scores this week?

No, we start over fresh this week, so I'll be posting them.

I'll be trying to just buy for specific projects, but those sales seem to always draw me it. I know I'll have to buy for three blankets, but I'm sending some thread off to new homes, so I hope that will offset it.

I'm finally back on my desk top and I've added you to the list, Pam. Sorry it took so long.

I used up another ball...+1......+2 so far.

I used a third ball...+1 and sent 11 skeins of thread to a new home...+22. So at +25 now.

I'll add you to the list, Jessica.

pineknott, I dropped away from posting last year but I'm the same way - I keep this thread in the back of my mind when I'm tempted and it's been a big help with keeping unnecessary purchases down! (It doesn't help that I can't really enter my craft room right now... too full of stuff!  :( )

Don't add me to the list for now because I don't know how often I'll be on to post; just wanted to share that I'm still with you in spirit!

I'm in too. I've had problems getting on line, but it seems to be O.K. now. I found out I only needed 32 squares to make the prayer shawl. I have 3/4 (+/-) of a pounder left, can't roll it down :( . I used up the 1/2 skein aran my mom gave me to :crocheting the squares together (point in, point out = 0). I need to get more to finish the shawl. I tried doing it all in tan, but it was too plain, mom was right, the aran looks much better. I'm making heart pins and will use up a ball of red soon.

WTD: 0  YTD: 0

I used a skein making two hats for my GD and one in a throw...+4.....=+29.

I'll get you added to the list when I'm on my desk top, Ellie 13.
