This is gorgeous! How long do you think it took?

I made a irish crochet wedding dress once and it took FOREVER and it was nowhere near this intricate.

Are there even patterns out there for this kind of dress, or did they just use regular dress patterns and crochet pieces to match the pattern piece.

I have seen pictures of Irish Crochet dresses that would leave you breathless. They are so beautiful. Some day I will do me a dress or a skirt. I have done a collar that took about 2 months to create so I know how much work goes into one of these dresses. Also remember that most of these were done in a size 80 to 100 thread. They were true works of art.

There were no patterns They cut a piece of fabric or paper and fit the different motifs to each piece arranging them to their satisfaction. Once they had that figured out, then they basted the motifs into place, then they crocheted in between to connect all the motifs. then the fabric or paper was removed and they had the piece for the dress.

Oh I didn't mean to go on and on. Irish Crochet is my true passion. Just don't get as much time to play with it as I would like.

I am curently trying my hand at a Irish crochet wedding dress. It does take a long time to do but well worth it.

ditto that been making the motifs since my daughter was one (she is 7 now) that way as the time draws nearer ill start making the netting to join them together but luckily I have another decade or so to finish it.
