Oak crochet hook made by my husband!

I've been married a little over a year and I just found out my husband used to do woodwork! Well he kept telling me all about it so I put him to the test. I told him I wanted him to make me a wood crochet hook. He said that was easy and fast. Well it took him a few weeks to really finish it but I love it!

What made him decide to use oak? I've never heard of oak hooks, even though oak is a hard wood.

Not sure, he wanted to make sure it was sturdy and would not break easily. I don't think he did much research, just went with it.

Just looked it up on his blog.  He says that he does not use oak, because of the grain in it.  Go figure! ???

Maybe the grain makes it harder to work with; grain is different thicknesses, right?  I wonder if that makes it harder to make it perfectly smooth, so it won't catch on the fiber?

It was catching on my yarn so he has been sanding it down even more. Waiting to get it back now....
