I was thinking of Jordan the other day when I saw a program on stem cell donation. they were saying that they have had a break through study show that the red stem cells from the umbilical cords of newborns has as much if not more a chance of curing leukemia. Also since stem cells are not blood typed they will work for anyone and they won't need anti rejection drugs. I don't know if her parents are familiar with this. I heard it on Canadian tv.

:*ccane We were talking about using the umbilical cord cure in Sunday School last Sunday. I did not realize there is no blood type. We thought it had to be a "correct match". I hope Jordan's parents know about this. What a wonderful solution! :*cwreath

I am pretty sure they said there was not a need for blood typing. I may be wrong. But at the very least I know they said that anyone could use it and it was just as effective, if not more, than bone marrow. Which needs a very specific match.

I finally had the time to read through this entire post. Now I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. This family has been put through so much. And Jordan is a fighter. I think the ghans that you all did for them are so sweet and the hats, and the bears, and the.....well, just everything. Just proves how wonderful you all are. I am now adding Jordan to my prayer list along with her family. I hope she gets to come closer to home for Christmas.

Chelle, how are those ghans coming along? joined it all up yet?? I cant' wait to see it!!!!

Chelle, I know that you have been very busy lately and have had a sick child of your own, but would you please give us an update on the comfortghans? I think all of us would really like to see this family see them as soon as possible. I feel that they are in need of some comfort and now that so many of us are praying for them.

I would like to help you on the shipping costs, so if you could figure out an amount after you have shipped them, I will gladly reimburse you through paypal, or check.

The lapghan is finished!! It's not the greatest picture, taken on my bed at 1 o'clock in the morning, but it's finished!

Even better news is that all the ends are woven in on this one :D! I wove in the ends before I did the purple border. I weave ends in as I work so there's less to do at the end, but then there's cutting the extra long ones, etc. This gives me time to finish the ends on the comfort afghan in the morning before mailing it off in the afternoon so Rebecca doesnt have to do it :)

Hopefully I have a box large enough to mail these and they will be mailed by priority tomorrow. I will weigh the box and let you all know on shipping costs. My paypal email address is the same as my regular emails (pick one lol). Thanks everyone :)

Yeah, but they don't have huge boxes (or at least I can't find them.) I just shipped an afghan to my grandparents and it was $6 priority mail. Hopefully this will be about the same for each.

Ok, comfort ghans are completely finished, all ends are woven in. They are folded up and in the box along with the pair of slippers on top. I am about to print out the shipping label with tracking info and insurance purchased. The box is 8 lbs - heavy ghans! I will be dropping the box off at the post office today.

Scratch that - I will not print the shipping label but will be taking it into the post office to purchase insurance AND signature confirmation for it. I shipped out an order (the baby blue baby sweater and blanket set along with the bubblegum poncho set) the end of last month and got insurance on it but no way to track it or confirm delivery. She says she never got her box so now I need to file the insurance claim on it but have to wait until the 30 day mark. So anyways, I would rather do this the right way and make sure it gets where it's supposed to go!

  • 3 weeks later...

this is an email to my hubby's office building from a close friend of jordan's dad:

hello to all,

It's been about a month since I last updated everyone on Jordan. I've had several folks ask how's she's doing over

the past few weeks, and it warms my heart to know that there are so many caring folks. I've passed that on to

Billy every time we talk, and he is so appreciative and touched by the caring people and he sends his thanks to

everyone.

Since a month ago a lot has happened with Jordan. In the past month Jordan has had a few good days mixed with severaldown days. It's been a roller coaster ride for her day to day. I will try to briefly mention some of the more significant things that have happen to Jordan over the past few weeks.

In short Jordan has dealt with on/off infection in her system, her lungs started filling with fluid, and at one point one lung collapsed.

She's been on a ventilator because they could not keep her O2 level above 90% without it. The most significant moment came about 3 or 4 days before Christmas when her kidneys started failing, and she was bleeding from her stomach. It was at that point the Doctor's told Billy and Christie they didn't see much hope, and that there was really nothing more they could do but wait and see how she reacts. Well,... we know today that Jordan despite the months she's already fought that she still had a little more fight in her.

Billy told me today that Jordan is doing much better. Her lungs are improved, her kidneys are functioning normal again, and all

the infection has been eliminated, and Billy tells me that she's on a lot fewer medications now. Jordan is still on the ventilator, but they are working on tapering her off of it by later this week hopefully. Billy said the past 4 or 5 days have been really positive and that Jordan is much improved, even to the point she's opening her eyes and smiling. Jordan is still on one antibiotic more as a preventative for further infection. Her bone marrow transplant to date is showing positive signs of taking hold. Let's just continue to pray for Jordan's recovery.

thanks to everyone.
