Yes, i think the book covers work well. You could also adapt it to include a built in book mark. I didn't really use a pattern, I just measured the book. I found that romance novels (small ones like a Harlequin etc.)take a smaller book cover,whereas the cozy mystery books like I read a are little larger to accomodate more pages. I gave one as a gift to a friend with a new book of her favorite author in it already, she loved it. I have even made Harry Potter book covers for my dd books
