"snowflake mondays" a past post i had seen UPDATE WEEK #4

tangled up

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

If no one else has a pattern ready to post I'd like to suggest we re-visit sarahanns's page and try #7. The address is http://www.sarahanns.com/crochetworks/snowflakes.html

This one attracted my attention when we were doing # 3 & #4. It has a more "solid" look to it which (I think) makes a nice departure from the more lacy ones. I like variety!

Is anyone with me?

Sounds good to me, Nancy, I am still "snowed under" :lol with other projects so haven't gotten flaky again yet... some lovely person sent me the April Showers scarf pattern and I've been working on nutting out the motif in thread which has distracted me from other WIPs and flakes-in-waiting ;)

So, go ahead and make it official, I'm keen on variety, too :)

Cheers,

Marika

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p214/mdour1234/DSC01102.jpg Ok, here is my snowflake I made this week. I made #12 but I can't find it:scrachin I think it melted....hahahaha.

That looks great! LOL about melting snowflakes. I need to find a box to keep all of them in. I have enough flakes that it looks like we need to sprinkle the house with Head & Shoulders. :lol Some on my chair table, some on the coffee table & one on the computer desk. :hook

:rofl You guys are too much. Nice work on the flake, furball1234 :). I need to get going on mine - I did finally remember where I stashed my first set of flakes and have now got all of my flakes (minus four I sent to a swap partner) in one sleeve of my newly-organized loose patterns binder :) (we'll see how long that lasts :P...)

Cheers,

Marika

I think I jinxed myself.. :(

I finally sat and did another snowflake on Sunday night, after playing outside in the sun and 52 degrees with the kids.

Monday we got 5 inches of snow. :eek

Maybe my idea of working on them in the summer, outside, is not such a good one!!:lol

Hi all,

I haven't seen a new flake for the week, so I'll pop one up - my suggestion is the

Triple crochet snowflake. I posted a different one, but the first part of the URL got blanked out, I assume it is not an allowed site probably on a copyright infringement basis. Argh. :sigh Oh, well - hope this one is good :).

Maybe by the time you return I'll be caught up!

Hi Everyone!

Spring has arrived! I hope everyone is having weather as nice as ours! My yard is full of daffodils (my favorite flowers) and Spring is in the air. It makes it hard to think of snowflakes, doesn't it?

Does anyone want to take a turn posting a pattern? It seems like I just did one (though I'm always happy to have an excuse to search the web for crochet patterns :lol) I thought someone else might want a turn.

Happy crocheting,

Thanks for this weeks snowflake!

I'm going to have to play catch up on last week & this week. It's prom week for my twin seniors & my youngest is having some one day surgery tomorrow. I'll try & post next weeks snowflake to help out. Hopefully I can get some of my flakes blocked & starched to take a pic to show as well.

Hi everyone. It's been a busy week. I didn't get photos of my snowflakes yet but I'll try & do it soon.

Nancy, thank you for asking about my sons Senior prom & youngest ds's surgery. How sweet. Prom went great for both of them. It was a fun night.

Unfortunately surgery didn't go well with youngest ds Wednesday. There was more damage than anticipated & it was over in 10 minutes. We are looking at two more ear surgeries in the near future, one on each ear (he has moderate hearing loss & middle ear damage). We are in for a rocky ride I'm afraid.

Anyway, here is this weeks snowflake I promised to post. I thought maybe this one might be a nice one to do. It holds a photo in the center of it.

It's a PDF file found at the top of this page....

Hi Shell,

Thanks for posting this week's pattern. I love it. I'm not caught up yet but I'm going to put this one on the top of my to do list. I have two special young ladies who will be perfect "centerpieces" so I''ll be making at least two. They're going to make great grandparent gifts too. Looks like I'll be making lots!

I was sorry to read about your ds' future surgeries. Please give him our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Now, .......I have just enough Caron SS to finish one more 7 x 9 Warm up America CAL rectangle. I'm so glad they extended the deadline! Then I can get back to snowflakes!

Thanks again, happy crocheting,

Question for you snowflake makers ;)

How do you keep them stiff? I have some crocheted snowflakes that I made several years ago. I got them out of the box to hang on the Christmas tree, and they were limp and discolored. I don't think they could have gotten damp, but I don't know what would cause that.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Croshay,

I too had some old ones. Over the years they got rather dingy and the starch I used years ago wore off. (You'd think the few weeks they're on the tree wouldn't get them dirty! But it does.) Now I use diluted (slightly) white craft glue (like Elmers). It dries clear and is very stiff. I like it for snowflakes. I washed my old flakes by soaking them in a mild detergent and warm water for the afternoon, gently squeezed out the soapy water, rinsed them to get ALL the soap out, rolled them in a towel to get rid of the extra water, pinned them on the blocking board and then painted them with the glue/water mixture. After a few hours drying, I turned them over and "painted" the other side. Then I let them completely dry. I think they'll be good for at least a few more years.

Hope this helps, and I'd love to hear if anyone has a better method,

Happy crocheting,
