contrary.crocheter Posted January 1, 2008 this sounds like such a great idea! I would like to try to accomplish one snowflake a week this year. I have a set of snowflakes that my mom made for me when I first got married and they are still beautiful. Now that my own daughter will be getting married in November of next year, I need to make some for her. They are also such great gifts to put in a christmas card! tangled up Posted January 1, 2008 ok, i'll work on this today!!
Krakovianka Posted January 1, 2008 I'm not sure I could do one every week, but I'd love to work on them throughout the year--maybe two each month--so count me in. I like to take a snowflake pattern (and for me, a snowflake pattern means six points) and make one according to the pattern, then start altering it a bit here and there. I recently made about 9 completely different snowflakes from one pattern that way, and when they are finished they have a similar "feel" to the whole group, because they have a common ground. You can share links to online patterns without special permission, I think.
kdwaye Posted January 1, 2008 Great idea! I've already made some for me, but they'd make great additions to Christmas gifts.
busy-bee-lmt Posted January 1, 2008 Oh, I like this idea. I'm not sure about one a week with everything else I do, but then snowflakes are little projects, so it might work out just fine. I have two pattern books that I bought a couple of years ago that have some really pretty snowflakes in them. They are both put out by Leisure Arts. "White Christmas in Thread Crochet" by Kathryn A. Clark and "Our Best Christmas Thread Crochet." The second book has a pattern for crocheted angels which I made and gave as Christmas gifts in 2006. In fact, I bought that book just to get that one pattern. I like making tree ornaments with the metallic wrapped crochet thread. It helps them keep their shape and gives them an antique look. Super Granny Posted January 1, 2008 you can post a link to any of the places that have free patterns..you can't post a pattern and claim it as your own and you can't post anything that you have to pay for unless you get permission
busy-bee-lmt Posted January 7, 2008 Good Monday morning! Looking forward to the first snowflake pattern. I dug out my little hooks and thread over the weekend.
TammyNC Posted January 7, 2008 This is a great idea!!! Once I got mine made for Christmas presents, I haven't picked back up my thread. I need to get a jump start so I don't feel pressured in November.
MomnWife Posted January 7, 2008 I'm in, too. I'm not sure about one per week, either, but I sure will try.

contrary.crocheter Posted January 7, 2008 I will give this a try -- I really love snowflakes (haven't done much with thread before), although it means dragging out the reading glasses. Turned 40 and suddenly I am holding things way out to see them!
nana_k Posted January 7, 2008 Count me in! :wooI love making snowflakes and always wish I'd done more of them when Christmas rolls around. I'll try to do one each week. :grandma Karen

sheryl* Posted January 7, 2008 :)Count me in. This sounds like alot of fun, even if you were to end up falling behind (that may be an issue for me, lol). I like how quick snowflakes are to make, you won't feel as pressured. I'd like to use mine as gifts and for my tree.
busy-bee-lmt Posted January 8, 2008 Done! That wasn't bad at all. Think I might make a couple more of these. I used a size 7 hook and metallic Knit-Cro Sheen thread by Coats and Clarks. Turned out great. Thanks, Tangled.

Thanks, Tangled. :eekWow that was quick, lol. Sofar iguess I'm starting out late. I'm going to make the mystery snow flake and post it in my blog. Been trying to get organized here still, but I'll find my thread tonight and get this snowflake whipped up.
busy-bee-lmt Posted January 8, 2008 I've got two done, now. The second one went much faster than the first one, because I had the pattern figured out. Except at the end, when my cat decided he wanted to help. Him rubbing my hands with his head is NO help.
yarn_monkey Posted January 8, 2008 Oooh this sounds fun, and I might actually get enough snowflakes done for this year's tree lol. I had good intentions last year, but it just didn't happen. I don't know if I can always do one a week, but I sure will try. One question though- can we do any snowflake, or should we do the one posted on Sundays? Not that it really matters to me, I just want to make sure I have this right!
sheryl* Posted January 8, 2008 :cheerJust in the nick of time...I got my first snowflake done. I tried to scan it since my camera doesn't do too good in low lighting, but found out there's something wrong with my scanner.:thinkSooo that leaves me to post a pic of it in my blog tomorrow. Anyway, I tried the mystery pattern and got stumped on some of the wording, like dlst...what is that? lol. I think there was something else, but can't remember. So insteading of having to figure it out and frog it, I just found another flake pattern. :)What I might do is make this same flake for the rest of the mondays in this month, then change to a different one. Hope everyone is having fun with this. I know I am:)
Ashley's Mom Posted January 8, 2008 Would like to join this CAL, but will have to start my snowflake next Monday cause it is almost 11:30 pm now. LOL! Had to work late tonight. This sounds like a way to end up with tons of pretty decorations by next X-mas.
sheryl* Posted January 8, 2008 :cheerI finally got a picture of my snowflake in my blog. I don't know what was going on with my scanner. Please come and see and let me know what you think. Don't be afraid to leave a comment there too. I like to know if people are even looking at my blog, lol. Happy crocheting everyone....I think it's time for bed. :night
busy-bee-lmt Posted January 8, 2008 Sheryl, that turned out very pretty. The dlst had me stumped for a while, too. Then I decided it was a typo and did a slip stitch and it worked out fine. I'll try to get a picture of mine posted later today. Ashley's mom, welcome. I don't think we have to actually do the snowflake on Monday. As I understand it, we get a new pattern every Monday and have all week to get it done. Am I right, Tangled?
