"snowflake mondays" a past post i had seen UPDATE WEEK #4

tangled up

Recommended Posts

Linda, I like these ones too. In fact we've already done snowflake #2 - it was week #19! I'd love to do Snowflake #1 for this week but lets remind everyone the terms used in the directions are Austrailian (same as British terms)

And I was thinking we were going to try a filet crochet flake from a graph! LOL Maybe another week?

Happy crocheting,

:) I like the idea of flake #1 as our flake of the week... :) I thought it was funny that the chart looked like a snowflake, too :lol But I recognised it from Linda's posts in the Games Training thread, so figured it was probably not the photo she had intended.

That does bring up a question, though, of whether we want to stick strictly to snowflake ornaments or to broaden to snowflake-themed items...

Hello.....

I've been gone quite awhile. Weather warmed up and I went outside.

Still only have 8 done but I'd love to get back into it.

Any clue as to how I would get myself to WANT to crochet again? Maybe I just burnt myself out after I learned how.... I was crocheting constantly, now I really just don't want to!

One of the best things about snowflakes is they only have a few rounds. Most can be finished in just a few minutes. If that helps you get back in the mood we'll be glad to see you here!

I've been crocheting outside since it warmed up. I keep my ball of thread in a small plastic tote so it can sit on the (deck, porch, lawn, bleachers, beach towel,...) without getting (leaves, dust, grass, dirt, sand,...) on it. :D

Look, I go through seasons of what I am into using my leisure time for. At the beginning of this year, I was in reading mode and was reading several books per week. Then I started crocheting like crazy and haven't read more than a handful of books over the past few months - though when I went on holidays, I couldn't really settle into crocheting and zipped through a small pile of books at the holiday cottage we were staying in.

If you've popped back here, chances are you are starting to get in the mood to think about crocheting again - maybe you just need to find something that inspires you. It may be some snowflakes or it may be branching out in a different direction, trying a project in a new material or stitch or technique. Do any of the classes interest you? If you've been a thread gal, maybe something in yarn. If a working in rounds/squares maybe working something in rows or as a whole piece...

Or, wait for cooler weather when you want to curl up on the couch and keep your fingers occupied :).

Cheers!

Hi Everyone,

I thought this link might be useful. I know it helped me. I've printed it out and included it with the patterns for week 19 and this week in my project notebook.

After following this link click on:

Thanks for the conversion chart, Nancy. I've saved that now with my patterns.

You're welcome Linda. I'm almost done with this week's pattern. I have to say it's going to be one of my favorites. I'm using size 30 thread and may even try one later with smaller thread.

But not tonight! I'll need brighter light for anything smaller. :grandma

I'm getting too old to see the small stuff especially after dark! Not to mention I'm on the edge of my seat of my seat watching the Stanley Cup game at the same time.

Is there a smiley that's a nervous wreck with bad eyesight?

Lol

Hi All,

OK now it's going to double overtime. The good news is I finished the snowflake. :D

Here it is before blocking. If the hockey game goes much longer I might have time to block it tonight too!

IMG-4.jpg

Maybe I should apologize for all the hockey talk but I used to work at an ice rink for a former pro player (my dream job :c9 and my dream boss :manyheart!!!) , and both my boys played high school hockey. It's a huge part of my life.

Hi everyone,

Since it's a "chilly" 91F at 7:00 PM local time I thought a snowflake might cool things down a bit. :flake:lol

If no one else has one ready I'd like to suggest this one:

http://community.livejournal.com/starrs_crodream/5514.html

I haven't tried it yet (I'm taking a the color change class that started Friday) but the designer rates it "easy".

Please let me know what you think.

And Marika,

I'm willing to try any snowflake pattern even if it's not a traditional flake to hang on the tree.......... What does everyone else think?

Happy crocheting,

I look forward to hearing other opinions (feel free to say "No way! No how!" if you like, I am not certain how I feel about the proposal myself, but have come across quite a few free snowflake-themed patterns and am running lower on the web-based thread snowflake patterns... I might have to start creating more myself!))

And thanks to Linda and Nancy for the last two weeks' flake patterns :clap

In that case Marika, I'm going change my answer re: other snowflakes. I'd love to have more "Snowflakes by Marika"!

And, there are lots of free patterns left. Several of the ones we've posted have had more than one pattern that we haven't used yet.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Nancy :) I'll see what I can cook up... hmmm... snowflakes... cooking... anyone thirsty? :D

I am tempted to try the Snowflake Afghan at some point, though I suppose a hexagon of that wouldn't be of tremendous value if you weren't planning to go the whole hog, so maybe won't propose that as a snowflake-of-the-week...

See you ladies later. Anjoy the color-changing class, Nancy - I am signed up for Katchkan's Beginning Filet class, so am trying to clear the decks of other WIPs to be ready for that :crocheting

I sort of hesitate to mention this, but I created about 4 or 5 snowflakes from scratch a year or two ago that I thought turned our rather pretty. I wrote the directions down, but I'm not sure if anyone else could follow them. I think so, but I'm not sure. Would any of you like to try them out? If so, I'll hunt them up and type them out.

Yes, be wary... be very wary... we will descend upon you like a pack of ravening wolves *slaver* *chomp* "Snowflakes!... Give us the Snowflakes!... Your snowflakes or your LIFE!" :devil

All seriousness aside :P, yes, please Linda! We will be very kind and compassionate - if any group would be good for testing snowflake patterns, I'd say we would be :) :)

:yay:cheer Linda, Linda she's our girl! Snowflakes with thread and beads of pearl! Linda, Linda, Go, go, go! We'll make them fast or we;ll make them slow!.... Goooooooooooooooo, Linda! :cheer

(Can you tell I was never a real cheerleader? :P)

Thank you, Marika. I'll hunt them up. I promise. With luck I can also find the originals so you will have an idea of what you're making.

I'm amazed. I found the original snowflakes almost immediately and I found the patterns with only a little looking. I still have to hide the tails and starch them and write up a clean copy of the directions, but I should have them ready by the end of the week.

Ok. I have the first pattern written up and I now have the glue to block the flakes. You have no idea how nervous I am about this. But I keep telling myself that I can do it.

I agree with Nancy, Linda...

Relax. :) We are really quite friendly and non-judgmental (mostly :devil) I didn't really mean it about the wolves, we are really just pussycats :cat

I was uncertain about posting my flake and it got a really nice reception :) It was my first pattern ever and everyone was really helpful about correcting any typos and suggesting alternate approaches. Plus, if you post it on the Original Patterns area you get to have that cool designer logo by your name in your posting headers, won't that be cool (if that is the way you decide to go... goodness if they had it when I did mine I might have rethought my idea of starting a blog for the pattern ;)...)

You can do it, we are proud of you just for offering :):hug

Thanks for the flake pattern, Linda :) It looks great! It kind of reminds me in feel of the Julie Bolduc pattern from week 9 - the sort of lacy density of the flake coordinates well with that one. :cheer
