Pot Holders for a friend

I did these for a friend's new house, it was my first try at using two colors simultaneously.

I have heard that some crocheters use double thickness of yarn so they can put something between the layers to lessen the heat when the potholders are used. Does anyone do that? Wouldnt the thickness of the yarn be enough?

Your potholders are lovely! I love the colors and pattern. Did you make it up or is it one I can find?

 

IMHO, the double-thickness is a big plus with potholders. I made one with one layer of Sugar n Cream, and I have to fold it over to use it. For the most part, though, it just sits on the counter for me to put spoons, etc., on while cooking. Next time, I'll know better!

I've used old ironing board covers &/or teflon fabric that you can buy by the yard at almost any fabric store - and I think even at the Walmarts that carry fabrics - to insert into crocheted potholders, works great!

I didn't really use a pattern, I made the chain as long as I needed (the number of chains needs to divide by 3), then I just switched the colors after each three dc.

 

FYI: Switch to the new color when you are pulling through the last two loops of the third dc.
