Tapestry Crochet

The pattern for this is actually a square bottomed basket with flared sides. There is 3/8" twisted nylon encased into the handles I created to turn this basket into a tote bag.

Here are some links providing more information about the orginal pattern:

I love it as a tote! Very nice! I have never tried the tapestry crochet before. Like Tunisian, I look at them and "think" they are hard and wind up choosing another project. Some day, I will give it a try. I can see it with the hands different colors too. That would be a neat variation.

Honestly speaking, it's really not hard to do. It does take some practice though. And that generally goes with any new technique you learn. For me, the hardest thing to learn was keeping the tension of the carried yarn consistent. When I first started doing tapestry, you could see the carried yarn "poking" through. You could see tiny blobs of unwanted color all over the design on the inside. I've definitely improved over the years :hook

You can find simple, small tapestry patterns for free at www.tapestrycrochet.com. I am especially fond of the Kitty Bag. It was my very first tapestry pattern ;)
