Thanks for comments. As we all know it doesn't take a whole lot of yarn for a hat so I started making these as scrappy projects.

Actually I don't have a pattern I just work with the type of yarn being used and let the needle (size varies with yarn) do the talking

I use 2 to 3 strands of yarn depending on weight and the look I want. Just make a basic beanie (with or without a crown)(with or without a pattern) and when you get the depth you want - just add a brim. I start the brim in front loop of previous row, with an increase on every 5th stitch. R2 sc all around, R3 inc every 6th stitch, R4 sc all around, I increase in this manner shaping the brim as I want it (I may sc all around in more than one row...kinda depends on the yarn combo)

I get tweedy effects, or I may just use same colors. A friend of my DH saw his and wanted one and then a friend of his etc. lol. It seems his friends liked the tweedy effects and a soft winter hat with a brim. Go figure :lol The brims are made so they can have more than one look. Maybe they like that idea? Maybe they like the idea of a brim hat that they can squish and put in their pockets???:think

So the good new is-I'm selling my SCRAPS :yay

Can't think of a better thing than to "sell your scraps" :lol Can buy more yarn to make more things and have more scraps to sell. I LIKE it!
