Snowflake Mondays 2009

Welcome everyone to Snowflake Mondays 2009 CAL!

The idea is simple:

A new free on-line snowflake pattern will be posted every Monday (somewhere between Sydney, Australia's Monday morning and wherever Monday ends at the latest :D).

Feel free to offer up suggestions!!! PLEASE! We will try not to duplicate flakes from last year's CAL if possible (I will post a list of our complete list of flakes in a later post...)

To join the CAL you must have the desire to do, look at or discuss crocheted snowflakes (it would be nice if you did the ones from the CAL, a bonus if you did them on the week they are posted, but, hey, we are not picky round here :manyheart.) Edited to add: BTW, we are a "friendly" (and to be honest rather chatty) CAL, so be forewarned! We can pretty much guarantee that we will not stay 100% on topic :lol.

I will endeavor to keep a running list of weekly flakes in this first post, and should I fail, hopefully my trusty helper missmaxx will jump to the rescue in another post on this first page of posts.

Looking forward to being :flakey with you all this year!

If you would like a button for your blog, Missmaxx and Quilt Crossover have both designed them - check out the posts linked to their names and contact them by PM for your choice of button :):flake.

Regards,

Marika

Oh! I have decided to do snowflakes next year as part of my list of things to do. Not sure if I can keep up with the Monday's but I will try. I home school my DD so by February I need to get back to school work.

It's great to see so many flake makers ready to go! I did the 2008 CAL and there were lots of times I had to play catch up. I'm happy to say I did it! I had 52+ new snowflakes for gifting this year.

The many bonuses include getting to know the worlds best snowflake makers.

Welcome to Snowflakes 2009.

I am glad to see that this cal is starting new. By the time I found the ville last year, it was in full swing and a little intimidating. I am all over this one! I look foward to lots of awesome snowflakes.

:yay We hope to not be too intimidating - remember - we do not require that you actually do all of the flakes all of the time on any schedule - we just post them weekly. We do hope you stop in and chat and support those actually working the flakes even if you are not flaking at the time :D...

I would love to this one. I might get behind tho, I work partime in winter and full time in the summer, but I will do my best to keep up.

No worries, just do what you can and join in on the fun when you can :yes.

I'm in and raring(sp?) to go..My personal theory is to crochet snowflakes on monday's only..That way I can do my 99 other things the rest of the week..But alas it's ONLY a theory..lol

:think Great theory!! :hook

That's okay, I will start teaching first grade full time in February and may not keep up with the actual flake making either (I count on Cosmo for that, mostly :devil)

Ladies, don't know of this is an old or new pattern, but I will do this one sometime soon.

That is a lovely flake, sticksnhooks, it was in last year's CAL, so we will probably not use it in this year's...

To that end, I will edit this post momentarily to include the final list from the 2008 CAL:

Wheeee, snowflakes!

I made my very first one last night from the 99 snowflakes book to practice for this hehe. Can't wait till I have a whole row to string up and tie up in the windows.

I would like to try and keep up with this! I am unable to promise complete participation as I deal with spells of depression that keeps me from doing anything.

I would like to complete as many as possible. I am going to try and have a snowflake tree next year.

Oh, dear, I'm going to try to do this, but I teach a class (usually Monday nights) in addition to my regular job, so I can't promise complete participation. But, thank you for the list of this year's flakes. That's awesome! I've already checked some out and think they're beautiful and want to make them. Plus it would help me use up the pile of white thread I have... I'm in, but no flogging with wet noodles if I fall way behind! Patty

Awww, Patty... now what am I going to do with those wet noodles?? I was just getting them ready :D....

No worries, no pressure - I may be teaching a class on Monday nights, too... I have a Beginning Crochet class listed at the Adult learning college in my area - if at least 4 people sign up, it will be running...

Just join in and even if you are only lurking, pop in and make some comments :D the more the merrier :yes...

I'd like to give this a try too. I doubt I will be able to make one a week, since thread is new for me, and I find it quite difficult. I think that a small project like a snowflake would be a good way to get used to thread.

That was how I got started with thread, and I love it now :D... If it is too tricky dealing with an unfamiliar type of pattern and material, you could always pick a pattern and start it in the finest yarn you are comfortable working with and then when you are comfortable with the pattern, start working down in size until you wind up with a thread size and hook size that you are comfortable working with and yields a result you like... we are always willing to hop in with encouragement and advice :P (:lol especially me :P with the advice :devil)

I am sorry to hear about your spells of depression, but we are glad to have you as a member and, hopefully, over time, as a friend... if you are willing to let us know, I am sure we will send thoughts, prayers and warm wishes as you prefer :manyheart

I'm in, too! I actually made my first flake a few days ago. Just to get into the swing of things. :) I am looking forward to having new flakes for next Christmas....mine are 20+ years old and beginning to show their age!
