thread snowflakes CAL

Isn't it funny how the upcoming new year brings out the need in us crocheters to start new CAL? I'm trying to use up my yarn stash which consists of 4 balls of thread. I thought that maybe I could crochet a snowflake a week for the new year. Anyone want to join me??:hook

Here are the links that people have suggested so far. Have fun with them!!

I tried Hat-a-week and lasted about 34 weeks. Which was not bad acutally. Anyway, I've been wanting to work on snowflakes but I'm afraid I can't commit to one a week. I'm more likely to do one a month. But I will definitely be a part of this CAL. I already have several snowflake patterns bookmarked if anyone is interested.

I've never done a CAL but I'd love to try this! I bought two books of patterns last summer but never made a single one. Some of the patterns are really complex and intricate. i found some instructions confusing too so y'all will have to help me interpret once in a while.

Yeah, more people. :clap:cheer:c9 Melissa, I was also in the hat-a-week CAL and I eventually ran out of steam too. With this CAL, do a snowflake a day, a week, a month, whatever you can do. Definitely share the patterns you have bookmarked. I was at crochet pattern central the other day (my second home on the internet, crochetville being the first of course) and printed out the pattern for "pretty snowflake". I don't want to start with anything too complicated, I haven't done much thread crochet.

:jumpyay I'd love to join in on this one! I was gifted a pretty snowflake ornament and I too thought about having a Christmas tree covered in thread snowflakes and white lights, I think it would be so beautiful!! Are we starting January 1? Will some kind soul make us a button for our blogs? :D

I would love to join in Jan! I don't have much thread, but what I do have I would love to use up.

Maybe I will donate my flakes to our church and people can buy them to hang on the tree.

I hope to make 100 for them and maybe another 100 for me. I can make a simple one in about 30 mins (depending on what I need to do) but right now my right hand is slightly swollen from everything and then some and it get worse when I am on the computer (grrr). I am trying to use my left hand for things it could do.

Maybe I can get the youth to block it. They've been wanting me to teach them to crochet and maybe this way I can leave my hands for something else.

Count me in!! I just finished 18 snowflakes for my MIL so I didn't get to put any on my tree again.:angry Maybe if I start now I'll get enough to give for presents next year and get some for myself finally:manyheart .

Karin- the pretty snowflake is nice and easy I did a few of those and here are a few other nice easy ones.

Yeah!! :jumpyay I'm soooo glad other people are interested in this CAL. How about we officially start January 1st. Do any pattern you want; try to post a link to the pattern if its a freebie. And have fun, fun, fun. I wish I could make a button for this CAL but I have no idea how to do that. If someone can do it that would be great (and if you do, could you explain how to poor little computer illiterate me??)

Melissa, thank you so much for the button. Now tell me how do you make one?? Do you need a special computer program to do it? Also, a great big thank you, for all the links you posted.:manyheart
I did it with the program Paint Shop Pro. You can do it with any graphics program. Sometimes computers have the programs already loaded on it. I would have to talk you through the process of making the button, though. Somewhere on this forum, there's a link to a turtorial.

I'd so love to do this -- I'll try for one every two weeks rather than one each week...

I found some white Southmaid with metallic accents (one opal, one silver) at Wal-Mart. Not too expensive, and each 'ball' should make several...

I definitely want in on this one!!! I want a snowflake for every christmas card, and every window of my house next year, and my hubby got me the Crochet Stitch Bible, which has a GREAT snowflake in it, that i'd love to try, and there are like 10 snowflake patterns I've seen on-line that I want to try so I don't get bored, woot, this will be fun!
