Wow I didn't realize how far you were on the project! Makes me wonder where everyone is at. I finished 6 and get to move on to the puff stitch square. I really like learning these different stitches which is why I wanted to do the CAL. Hope everyone is has a great day or night depending on where you are at. :manyheart

Yea, Vickie -

I finally made up my mind to do this, and once I make up my mind, I am pretty obsessed with getting it done before moving on to anything else .

I hope to get a lot further this weekend, although I have another HUGE project that is taking lots of my time . I am making family tree books for our entire family to sell at next year's reunion -- WHAT A JOB .

Got a large part of the dates-- now it's scanning HUNDREDS of photos to put into it . Will certainly be glad to get that done ! Very time-consuming .

Have a great day-- keep on chugging on those squares. I'll probably check in again later today with you all.

Wish me luck on those Beastly Bobbles .:angry

Got number 19 done last night-yeah! It's a very pretty square-nice pattern, lies flat. Contrast that to the #17 preachercuss square. It wasn't too difficult to make once you get the hang of doing those bobbles, it's just that the bobbles are so BIG and there are so many of them that take up so much yarn! Then the whole thing won't lie flat. I just prefer flat squares, what can I say? ;)

Julie, you sound like you will be very busy with your family albums! What a huge job but I'm sure they'll come out great and everyone at your family reunion will love and appreciate them. :)

Hope to make lots of progress today since I've no errands and few chores. Will check in later!

Hi Vickie,

That was my reason also for wanting to do this CAL. I figure once I work my way through all of these different stitch patterns I should be able to do pretty much anything.

I'm really taken with the square that has the little flower in the middle and see that as a sweet little baby girl afghan.

Well done on getting through six squares! You are doing great :clap

Margaret

Hola!

OK ladies I have a question for all you experts.

I've just put the last stitches in the three colour ripple baby afghan I've been working on.

As I already mentioned, I'm just learning as I go and the way I've been joining in a new colour is to crochet over a few inches of the new thread I just added and leave the old one hanging at the side to weave in later.

I was just going to cut the ends off once I wove them in but someone on another board said I should also use PVA glue to stop them unravelling in the wash. Now I'm wondering how you deal with the ends on your squares as they all look so neat.

I'll be spending my evening weaving in ends and praying my yarn arrives soon so I can make a start on my 63 squares.

Now did I imagine it or was there mention somewhere of another CAL for the 63 MORE squares?

Happy crocheting everyone!

Margaret (who just achieved Villager status) :cheer

Yay! Congratulations, Villager Margaret! I was so excited when I hit that, too :):flower

I make a lot of baby stuff, so weaving in ends is a big deal! I like to crochet over the new strand for a few inches, then weave it back the other way with my hook. If it's a thick piece, I usually stop there because the pattern is either tight/thick enough to hold it down. If it's a baby piece, I'll loop the yarn around my hook after double weaving it and tie a very tight, very small knot on the back. The ultimate test is then running it through the washer and dryer!

Whoo-hoo, everyone is doing so well! I can already taste the next 63 squares. . . :lol

Hello Ladies !

Back again for a quick check in, then it's off to run some more errands . Yes, the family tree book is a big job. I already completed one that went way back to the 1700s ...... this one is a new version, which is only going to have my grandma and grandpa's family-- from them forward -- their kids, grandkids, great.... and so on and on. It will have lots more photos and an address and birthday section of everyone in the family ( and we have one big WHOPPER family ) , a section of In Memory Of -- for those that we have lost and a section of old photos just called Memories of past reunions and funny things that have happened . We made big ones 5 years ago and they all sold out . Each year we have people asking for more, so I thought this one would be real nice, kinda like a 5-year later update. with newer photos of the families, etc . We also have family in Ohio, Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, Utah,Indiana,NC ,an can't think of where else ... so it's a little hard to ge tin contact with them all for photos, etc as easily as you would like to .

Anyhow, we're not on here to discuss this, are we ?

Back to CROCHET ...... and boy, do I have a post for you all when I check back in .

I'll just give you a little hint :

Is anybody up for ROUND 3 ?????

Julie:

What an amazing thing you are doing with the photo albums! I would love to see something like that for our family! You have taken on quite the job hon! I am sure it will turn out amazing. I too have a lot going on this weekend/ coming week. We close on our first house on Monday so we are packing away. My hubby just got laid off last night so I finally have some help before he starts his job in Canada for a month. ( He is a pipefitter and works in nuclear plants and gets laid off after every job is finished ) So we have 4-5 days of getting the new house up and running before my mother comes in to town and he leaves town. hahah. I will still be working on the afghan because I nurse my 8week old and what better time to keep my hands busy while I have to sit. It is either crochet, watch tv or read. I will listen to the tv while I crochet or read usually. So there is another plus to nursing a baby -besides all the normal it is healthier benifits for the baby lol - a reason for the mom to sit and have quiet productive time. :manyheart

Way to go ladies on your progress for the day. Keep up the great work. Oh did I mention I just finished #7? Well it turned out very nice. I like the puff stitch look. On to # 8 I go. Have a great afternoon everyone!!

Margaret, when I change color or start a new skein of yarn I usually do the trick where you complete the stitch with the new color/skein and leave the ends for a couple rows. Then, when I stop for the night or start up the next day, I weave in the ends with a big yarn needle. I leave a long tail so I can weave it back and forth for awhile. I haven't had a problem with ends coming out and if they do a teeny bit, I just trim them. I've never had a problem with anything unraveling completely. I even tried to undo some work because everything was way too small and I just couldn't get the darn thing apart where I had woven in ends. I guess that's a pretty good testament. :)

You are sure doing a great job and plugging right along on this ! I'm so proud of your progress .

Wow, your first house, how exciting .. I remember buying our first house, what an exciting tim it was. It's exciting everytime you buy a new house, though !

I LOVE MOVING !!!

( We've never moved OUT of this town, but we have moved 11 times .)

Is it hard for you when your husband is gone to different jobs like that ? I have a cousin whose husband has jobs like that . He is gone 8 days, then home 4 -- that's his schedule year round !

Anyhow, keep on going -- you are doing a wonderful job !

Hi, Tonya! :waving Hope your move and Vickie's goes smoothly! My husband and I have moved 3 times in 20 years and I shudder when I think of packing boxes! :scared Julie, have you really moved 11 times?! Wow! I'm sure you don't have any "junk" lurking in your closets, basement, or attic! Moving is a good way to clear out all that accumulated clutter!

I seem to be falling behind Celeste. You go, girl! I got 20 and 21 done yesterday. I LOVE #21 -- I love granny squares and the little flower is the icing on the cake! :c9 I think I'll make some for the Squares 4 Survivors. However, I do need to slow down a bit. Between much tapping on the computer and crocheting my hand feels like another case of tendonitis is coming on. As a famous singer once lamented: what a drag it is getting old. :(

Hi Sue -

Yes, we moved a lot in our earlier married years, but the moves are now fewer and further between. We really love the street and house we have now so this may be our last spot .

And I am the world's FURTHEST thing from a pack rat. I HATE clutter . If I don't use it today, it goes to Goodwill tomorrow .

I know what you mean about your hands being sore. I have been on this computer for a week straigh typing away for the family tree book, plus trying to crochet a lot, so my hands are now paying the price. I hope they muscle up and get stronger from all this, then I can be a POWER CROCHETER .

And thank you Lowrancer for the comments ! Jump in and join us if you'd like to !

Good for you, Julie! I hate clutter too but don't have such a good handle on the clear-it-out part until I go on a junk rampage! :)

Progress: 1-21 is done, as I've already said, and just got the pics uploaded for viewing! ;)

Great job, Sue !

You are 1/3 of the way done already . :sstar:2magic:sstar

That wasn't so bad, was it ? Your photos are beautiful . Can't wait to see them all together .

I made it through number 37 - The Square From the Black Lagoon and am about halfway done with 38 . I also did 47 the other night when Survivor was on. I needed an easy one to do then so I could concentrate on the show, so I now have my 40th square half done .. Who would have ever guessed ? And we actually haven't been working on these all that long either !

Well, gotta go hunt up something for supper, so will check back in later tonight .

Yay, Julie! Great job! I can't wait to be that far!

John is doing much better today, but I made him call in to work so he can rest up. We're going to get him in to a specialist early next week for his headaches, now that he can walk! Thank you everyone for all your good thoughts.

Bad news, Sue. . . I just finished #29. The good news? I have two presentations to prepare this week, so the door is wide open!:hook

Celeste,

I was wondering how John was doing this weekend . Hopefully the specialist will pinpoint the problem and get him feeling better real soon .

Wow, you are on 29-- GREAT !!! You have been a powerhouse with that crochet hook , but it sounds like Sue will be able to catch up on you this week if you're not careful !

I am glad you found your book, Faith and we will be waiting this coming week to see you posting about your squares !

I am working like a fiend tonight to get more squares done. Will get all my new photos taken and posted in the morning !

You all have a good night , or afternoon. I keep forgetting, some of you live clear on the other side of the country and it is early afternoon for you all .

Dear Vims -

I think you said you'd be out of town for a few days so I'm not sure yet if you've left or are still at home, or near a computer .

I just heard on the news about the terrible earthquake over on the border of your country and Pakistan. I don't know what area you are located in, but hope you and your family are all well and safe . Drop us a note when you get this so we know !

:heart
