Kitsch as Kitsch Can Cal

While doing my usual Saturday stroll through Rachel's new offerings, I came across this wonderful TP cover

http://www.irishlace.net/crochet/toiletpaperroll.html

:rofl :rofl :rofl

Now I have an un-improvable adoration (I refuse to improve my taste level :wlol ) of most things kitsch especially TP covers. I don't consider my bathroom "done" until I have my barbie doll in a skirt TP cover.

This new one presents such honesty that it just inspired me, I will have to try that pattern but I think it might be fun to make other similar stuff for my place.

I know that this will likely die aborning as most people don't like to admit to enjoying our tacky side but if you are brave enough and weird enough, you can join me in searching for and creating as much Kitsch as we can.

This is where we are really going to miss Celt's site. I hope I still have some patterns for those wonderful pot holders she presented.

Is anyone else interested in making some glorious Kitsch :?

:rofl :rofl :rofl

Who knows, you might use up some stash doing this :wlol

I have an image in my mind of you hiding at the end of your yard with your back to the house while you crochet just one TP cover that you quickly unravel - your guilty pleasure assuaged. :rofl

Welcome aboard.

I think I will try to specialize in TP covers for this one... just because. :P

This is going to be fun!

I'm just thinking you could always make a dish liquid apron :lol That would be kitsch.

About 10 years ago I sold tons of TP covers .... everyone seemed to want one along with kleenex box covers :lol Hmmm maybe the market is coming back:yay

I want to make one :hook

Kitsch never goes out of style. For the coming holidays, try some of those pantaloon potholders in xmasy colors...or crochet candles that cover the tp roll....love those! I actually have some of these from the 70s. What fun!!!! Other ideas: Air Freshener can covers. Renuzit frangrance covers. Poodle bottle covers. Turtle margarine tub covers. Margarine tub drawstring bingo chip purses. LOLOLOL There's something very fun about these projects and I love them!

LoL!!

Well guess what?! After I posted, I was looking at tp covers :blush and saw one that was made to look like a roll of tp. Well dh walked up behind me and said, "Hey, that's pretty cool. You should make that." :eek I almost fell off my chair! LoL I said, do you know what that is? He was like, "well"....<loooong pause>...."yes, but it's a good idea for the girls' bathroom since the cat keeps shredding the tp."

So I might have one of those on my plate. I also saw a couple of cute dishsoap aprons on Rache's site yesterday so I am going to make one of those as well. I'm sure my Santa soap dispenser will look very beautiful wearing one! :rofl

eek I have a super cute toilet paper roll doll that my husband's great gramma made us a few years ago. The little doll is sorta tacky, blonde and in a funny shade of pink, but I love it :)

I made some of the knicker potholders for my friend and her sister a couple months ago, the kind that look like pants and panties. When she first asked me to make her some, I thought she was kdding. She asked me to make her some underpant potholders. Hah..

That same friend sent me some Leisure Arts booklets and in one is a crochet bed doll, that uses a plastic body/head so one of these days I will make her one and surprise her with it. I think there's a cover for those old style air fresheners, if those things didn't make me ill I'd get one and dress it up.

Ohh and I made this same friend little aprons a year or two ago for her dish soap haha. I don't know if she uses them or not, but we got a good laugh over them. They were reversible, so the soap could decide what it felt like wearing haha. They were cotton fabric and sewn, not crochet though

Well Darski and ladies:

This is my favorite kind of thing... The curiousity of the title of this CAL made me open it and check it out and well ladies what can I say this is my kind of think..

I wouldnt call it tacky thou as TP covers come in handy in emergencies and also I just love to do the TP covers with look alike barbie dolls I buy at the $ stores.. Just today I was organizing my stuff and pulled out a batch of them dolls so I guess I got a excuse now..

Now ladies one of my specialties is Toilet tank cover sets.... Only now i just crochet the tank top cover and the toilet seat covers the the cover for the tank it self unless ist like the ones from maggies crochet...

Check out my website and you will see under bathroom items some of the things i make and still more to come...

So Darski count me in on this one too... Loads of fun....

Kitsch is a German word that kinda means trashy art ... knick knacks may be a more common term. But anyway, being from a German background [maternal side] I have to admit; I've seen my share of kitsch in my day! My mom still holds on to all those things my grandparents had. Even the TP covers my grandmother seemed to collect! They are fun and easy to make ... and can be quite useful especially in a small bathroom. Maybe I'll try a couple myself? :scrachin I'm enjoying looking through all the links.
