Thank you all for the comfort ghan!

Recommended Posts

You girls have really outdone yourself! Today when I got home I saw a beautifully decorated box on my backstep that must have been delivered while I was over my fathers house taking care of some business around my moms house for him. Here was the thoughtfully designed box:

I snatched up the box off the back steps and ran it into the house carefully sliced open the tape with the first steak knife I could find and inside there it was in all it's glory...thoughtfully wrapped in my favorite color tissue paper....PINK!

Even my cat Queenie liked it..she was the first investigator on the scene while we were snapping these photos tonight.

At first chance I got tonight I went on a crochetville message search and read and re-read all my favorite blogs and was looking for any evidence that you gals did this all without me knowing. It's funny when you read blogs religiously yyou sort of think you have a good feel for that person somewhat.....and I couldn't believe that none of you posted not even a peep about this work of art.

I told my husband we must take pictures so I could thank you girls properly. I had somewhat of an idea that my aunt was involved in this as of last night when I spoke to her on the phone..she asked me if I received any surprise packages in the mail. I had asked her if she has sent me something...she said no...and wouldn't tell me another peep other than I might have a surprise package arriving at my house tomorrow.

I don't think I have ever witnessed a more self-less thing than this you all did for me. I am taking this blanket to bed with me tonight...the colors are perfect.....I just :)h them to pieces! I love how the corner squares are more rectangular than the squares that make up the rest of the blanket. It is incredibly soft to the touch and the fringe is the most perfect length...no to long and not to short.

My sister-in-law was in from Sweden and she was here this morning when I opened the box...I cried for a moment, we hugged and held the blanket up for a short while just admiring the beauty of all the squares carefully stitched by each of you...and all pieced together. The sentiment behind this comfort ghan is really powerful. If anyone ever is in need of help like this again...I would love to pay it forward and help.

Many thanks to:

It just makes me so happy that you love it. It looks beautiful put together, and Jayme did an excellent job edging and joining the squares. I love the way she laid them out. I'm so glad you like it Ro!!

I am back tonight to report that I took that blanket to bed last night and I slept like a baby for the first night in a long time. Since my mother's passing I haven't been sleeping to well at all. The comfort this ghan gave me was amazing...like I said previously...it is powerful.

I am still in awe at how you ladies all worked together and stitched this with your very own hands....so much thought and sentiment behind this gift. I have never recieved such a warm, heartfelt give before in my life.

Jayme, you did such a fantasic job at laying out them squares and stitching them all together. The color is perfect....just my absolute favorite! Then I had to go and screw up my cutsie little pink blog and make it puke green! Pink is still my favorite color...just for the record.

Have a nice night ladies...

I am SO glad you slept well last night. I believe with all the love that goes into making each and every square, that it's bound to bring some comfort. :hug

:ha :ha I had to laugh when I saw that you changed your blog to green... we picked the pinks because of your blog and we were half way through and we noticed you blog was GREEN! And you mentioned you needed a break from the pink! :ha :ha

But I'm glad you're enjoying it! :heart

You're welcome, Ro! :hug:heart:hug I'm glad you love it and even more glad that it has given you comfort! I have to say... reading your post brought tears to my eyes. I was thinking of you and your loss with every stitch, and I know all the other ladies were, too. There is a lot of love in that afghan! :)h

Thank you, Jayme, for organizing this effort and for joining the squares and mailing the afghan! :ty You did a teriffic job! :cloud9

Oh, and about nobody knowing about the afghan... we were sworn to secrecy!! :P Jayme said no discussing it on Crochetville or blogging about it! :nono :P As far as choosing participants for the comfortghan, I believe... and Jayme, you can correct me if I'm wrong... my suggestion for was to pull e-mail addresses of people who had recently commented in Ro's blog, and I think that is what Jayme did.

You're right Donna, we were sworn to keep this on the hush hush :P and everyone did an excellent job at keeping this project quiet.

And I did go through Ro's blog (every single post- back to June!!) :sherlock and collected names of people who had posted comments to her blog.

Anyways, I'm glad it's been a comfort and I've enjoyed participating in the ghan.

:ty everybody!

Oh, I almost forgot... I did blog about making the squares. Well, sort of... *ahem* covertly... secretly. :<> :lol You can see a photo :camera of me working on one of Ro's squares in this post on my blog. :D! :bad I made nearly all of the squares I contributed to the ghan on that trip. A lot of it was mile-high crochet! :fluffy
