I did use only regular cotton thread for it. The "wool" is made up of ch 7 loops. It actually looked better after it had been washed twice.

i have a doll pattern that is a little bo peep. and the sheep that goes with her looks almost just like this. i am going to make some of those and use them on the tree. thanks so much for posting this or i would have never thought of it.
