pretty pinwheel doily

Hi all,

 

I recently crocheted Pretty Pinwheel (Magic Crochet magazine, August 2003, number 145, page 17). I first did this in Opera size 30, white, with a size 11 hook. I then wondered what it would be like in King Tut variegated sewing thread (somewhere between a size 80 and 100), so I did it again with color 915--Suez, using a size 14 hook. I've liked King Tut for tatting but had no idea how the variegated would look with the crochet. I think the variegated is not bad, but doesn't really add to the lace design. Size of the 2 doilies--white is about 10" across, King Tut about 6" across. Here are the pictures:

I love 'em both but that blue does have a certain je ne sais quoi.

 

it is lovely and it makes it more misty and mysterious in a way.

Oh I love the variagated one. white with sprinkles of color here and there. Awesome doily.! I love the big one to,,, but my eyes have taken to the variagated one...awesome~~
