U Shawl

That is exactly what I have been looking for; but, I am not talented enough to make my own pattern. If you will share your expertise I, and several others will be grateful.

You did a great job. I can do the work, can't do the design.

I love the shawl, and I bet it would work to modify a tree skirt pattern, just start with a bigger starting chain...and that would make doing a pattern easier... is that sort of how you did this? Along the lines of how a Christmas tree skirt is done. That is what it looks like to me in the picture! :clap BTW, when you do make the pattern I think we all want copies!:yay

Deborah, I don't think a Christmas tree skirt pattern would work. The increases in the shawl are only made in the back, on the middle half of them. That is, I chained 44, hdc in 11, increased evenly on the middle 22 and worked even on the last 11. Of course, the numbers change each time there is an increase. It doesn't show very well in the pic but there are 2 triangular panels in the front that increase from 1 to the equal number stitches of the rows of the back. That's basically the pattern.

Hey! How'd you do dat!? I tried working it out in crochet and just couldn't get it. I would love to make one too. I wish I had any talent to design. You did a great job.

If it helps, I used half double crochet stitches and made it about 28 inches long (back measurement). I think there are around 54 rows from the back neck to the center back edge. Increase at the beginning of each row. The two front panels have one straight edge, which is the center front, and one slanted edge, which joins to the slanted edge of the shawl. This makes a shawl piece which is U shaped, with slanted end edges.

That's lovely. you did a great job.

I sort of have something like this in the works...but it was put on the back burner for the summer. I hope to get back to my "big" projects after the move (in only another month or so....ACK)

Fran...have you had time to write out the pattern? Please count me in for one of those who would like a copy. It looks so warm and comfortable and I love the yarn. :)

Sorry I've been so remiss in getting the pattern out. Several things sidetracked me--including my first granddaughter. But I'm about half finished with it. When I get the baby outfit finished that I'm making I'll get back to it; probably in a couple of days.

Hi Fran! First let me say...WOW!! Beautiful work!! I would love to make this for a friend for Christmas if you have the pattern done. Do I need to put in a request to you for the pattern to be emailed to me or are you planning on posting it here? However you are going to distribute it I would love to have it :D

Take care!

I myself would love a pattern to this also.

Fran, I know how grandbabies can turn things topsy-turvy, we just had our first one Christmas morning two months early. The little tyke has us all waiting for the day he's strong enough to come home :):yay:cheer

I'm adding my voice to those who would love to see this pattern, when you have the chance to finish it. I'm a science nerd, and a sucker for math-based patterns.

Congratulations on the new grandbaby!
