potholder

amdm

Question

Please point me to your favourite (free) potholder patterns. What I am looking for, and would really appreciate, is suggestions for a practical

potholder,i.e. not the prettiest to look at, nor the most interesting to crochet, but something that, while being pretty and interesting, is the most convenient to use.

I hope I am not asking for too much.

Here are a couple that I use ALL the time. Functional, look good, but not so pretty you won't use them :)

I love the one on boring blog. It's thick and soft and easy to use. Wool sock yarns would make lovely stripes and felt up nicely too!

Priscilla's very popular Scalloped Potholder is my favorite -- not only pretty and easy and fun to make, but with its double layer of cotton worsted -- is nice and soft and thick for practicality.

For the absolute best funtionality, I like her Potholder Stitch Oven Mitt (same website), just because I feel safest from heat with a mitt. And this one gives better protection than most purchased fabric mitts.

This is my favorite practical potholder. So easy!!!!

It is double thick and make up in one motion round and round, then sew together on the diagonal. The pictures are great to help you.

I like this one too. I make them larger (chain 48) and everyone seems to love them because they are so thick and large enough to set pots on.

the hotpad posted by texasredhead is also my favorite. i keep a ball of scrap cotton that i use for these. the knots can be hidden on the inside and they still work great. easy pattern too.

This one is my favorite, too. Ravelry has some really pretty multicolored ones. This pattern is easy and works up fast.

Thanks so much for the prompt and helpful replies. I love all the suggested patterns. and can't wait to start them. (Yes, I plan to make them all). As for CPC, I usually start my pattern searches there, but this time I wanted personally recommended patterns, and that's why I am so grateful for your replies.

The oven mitt is another valuable suggestion. I love Priscilla's patterns, and I am going to make this as well. As you may have guessed, I need to give friends who are enthusiastic cooks useful gifts, but want to have fun making them.
