Hmm. That sounds like a fantastic way to get myself to start working on Xmas gifts. Unfortunately I'm unemployed atm and have no white thread. :-( All I have is black, pink, and green...I'm a newcomer to crocheting with thread, so I didn't really get time to work on my thread stash while my temp job lasted. x_x When I have expendable income again, I'll totally jump on that bandwagon.

Everyone. We are down to one computer. The laptop stopped working, so I have to share with DH so he can write his book/books. So I have been crocheting instead. I did some more diagnal block squares for my afghan for my livingroom.

 

Nancy that is pretty, but I am sure those picots are going to do me in . Actually any pattern from 2 - 5 looks fine. I really like pattern 4's puffy looks. I will let you all decide. I am sure Marika... er... Wanda will come in with her and a little whip with your help and get it taken care of...

Thanks, Nancy, I think we are nearly out of the woods . And, on the bright side, I thought I had one more adult ed class to teach than I actually do, so I have booked a day of care for my daughter in school holidays for which I do not have a full work commitment - perhaps I'll manage a bit of me time ...

 

The flake looks nice, Nancy, though I do think it will compete with Picots from **** flake ... the puffy one does look nice, too, perhaps we'll mentally mark that one for another week - it does look nearly as picot-y, but the fluffy centre obscures the picot dread a bit .

 

Carla, sorry about your computer - I know how it is trying to trade off with heavy computer users, both of my children and my husband and I are all competing for our laptop quite often At least it means you are getting in some good time!

Carla, I'm sorry to hear about your computer. I hope you can get it fixed soon.

I have a question for anyone who's been working on the quilt motif.... I'm having a tough time with this one. The last round has lots of turning and going back to finish the points (I think!). I'm sure it will be pretty when it's done - if I ever finish it! LOL These kind of directions are worse than picots for me! Anyway, I'd love to hear from someone who's made one.

I got that the site was not available at this time.

 

I had already printed off the info, as since I cannot access with the other computer, and don't have access to some patterns I had saved. I learned to print it off or put it in a doc and email it to myself for my personal use only.

I have saved them as downloaded files, though I don't think I did that with the directions pages, so I may have some problems . Ack! My downloading and saving seems to have begun after the CAL motif... will have to search further and look for the printout... Hmmmm....

If you geta chance I'd love to hear your opinion on three things, 1) Round 6 - clusters look very ..."loopy" -without instructions - what would you use? and 2) Round 7 I read it that we have to go back and forth on each point before moving on to the next "section" Is that what you see? and 3) I don't see a "ch whatever" for starting every row. Especially a problem for me in the transition between Row 5 & 6! Any ideas what I'm missing?

Let's hope the web site is back up and running soon. I didn't get an instruction page either. Instructions? We don't need no stinkin instructions! LOL

Hey-ho, Cos!

 

So, to tackle things back and forth... I am working on round 6 at the moment, but 2) that is how I read it - you sort of go back and forth up half way to the point and then back and forth downwards to the connecting bridge of sc... 1) I did give a peek on those when the directions were up just to note that the little four armed puff was a "4 hdc cluster" my interpretation of the single puffs is: (yo, pull up a loop)4 x, yo and pull through all loops. For the two clusters that join in a point on round 6, I am doing (yo, pull up a loop) 4x, yo and pull through all but the last loop {2 loops left on hook}, entering beneath next arch - (yo, pull up a loop)4x, yo and pull through all loops - then ch 8. Unfortunately this produced too tight of a round, pulling my motif into an approximation of a sphere waiting to be accomplished I will have to work more upon this...I checked and it is called a 4 hdc PUFF stitch, looking up puff stitches elsewhere I have noted the need for a chain-1 to 'lock' the stitch... perhaps with that added ch1 the connection will loosen up enough for the motif to lay flat... I am not up to frogging and redoing it right now...

3) for all of the rows starting with sc, there is the starting chain right next to the sc... for round 6, I just started the first 4hdc cluster with 2ch for height (and then just 3x yo, pull up a loop)... my plan is to finish the round by doing a single 4 hdc cluster and joining to the beginning cluster with a sl st... we'll see if that works!

Thank you Wanda! I had the same problem with row 6 not laying flat. I didn't even try to frog. It was scissors and the trash -then start again.

The locking chain (and being somewhat conscious of making the ch-8 not too tight) makes a HUGE difference!

 

I am only halfway through round 6, but am finding I have a bit of play with the chain arches, so no cupping as of yet!

 

I also did the first 4hdc puff stitch decrease/combined stitch straight from the join - I still started with a ch-2 for the first hdc, but worked back into the arch to the right of my hook so that I could do the complete combined stitch to start off with - it was quite awkward to work, but I think it set me up in the right spot **crosses fingers**.

 

I had to try frogging, as I did not want to work the first five rows again I am using the silver version of the thread I am using for the angel filet wallhanging and an 11 hook, so the first few rounds are quite fine and fiddly!

I gave up on my motif 4003... I think I was on the right track, but I need to work it out on larger, plainer thread... the thin, sparkly silver metallic wrapped thread was NOT the one to start trying that motif with! So, and into the bin!

So, I think I have discovered my problem... I have been doing six sets of double-puffs, not 12!! Perhaps that will explain the tightness ...

 

Ummm... did I ever mention that I prefer words, I believe there is a saying about 1,000 words being worth every picture or something like that?

 

I can see the benefit of diagrams, and I can use them (sometimes ), but I do like the accompaniment of words and numbers and conventions like "repeat 12x" !!!! ARGH!!!!!!

I think this looks like it will work, but round 7 is too tricky for me to try right now (looks up - sees 2 yo son draped over the arm of the couch with head at 90 degree angle to torso on the base (cushions removed) - runs to right him, returns to tell the tale...)

OK,

 

Another correction from me - I now believe the double hdc puff clusters are worked as follows:

 

(yo, pull up a loop)4x: inserting hook under next arch(yo, pull up a loop)4x, yo pull through ALL loops on hook, ch-1 to lock.

 

Then you chain 8 and work the first half of the cluster into the same loop you did the second half of the previous cluster into.

 

I frogged back to the first cluster and tried it this way and it looks more like the picture - I did not ch 2 for height, I just did yo and inserted my hook into the arch to the right of my hook (awkward, like the crab stitch, but it seemed to work...) and went from there.

 

Now I will probably try to finish this tonight after the kiddies have gone to bed.

 

I am thinking of purchasing the full instructions for the symbols - I am hoping that what one pays for is textual directions for the stitches...
