missmaxx Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) Hi Wanda, Just wondering if that was you running in stiletto heels in Sydney on the news? Great race! http://english.sina.com/world/p/2008/0902/183407.html Hi All, I like the pink design and the red one too - maybe a few more too. We'll have to do a couple of them over the next few weeks. What does everyone think? I'm wondering if I'm on my way to breaking some kind of record here on crochetville. I posted my pic - legally I hope! - of my snowflakes #21- 34 over at show and tell. It's funny, 74 people have viewed them but only one left a comment! I guess I left them speechless. Oh well. Warmest regards . :mdust:mdust Cosmo :mdust:mdust Edited September 3, 2008 by missmaxx

I'm all for popping several of the motifs into the mix... hopefully y'all won't revoke my CAL card due to my lack of :flakeing recently, I swear I have been quite flaky, just not snow-flakey! I've never used a diagram pattern before. But what the heck, learning a new skill is a good thing. Wish me luck. Cyn

sOCKsgirl Posted September 13, 2008 I got my first ball of thread and my first steel hook a few weeks back along with a 99 snowflakes book. I don't know if I really like working with the thread though =( the snowflakes are so pretty but I find the small motifs very hard to work with. It's like I'm all thumbs. I don't know if I really like working with the thread though =( the snowflakes are so pretty but I find the small motifs very hard to work with. It's like I'm all thumbs. You can do it sOCKsgirl! Once you get the tension down you'll be making beautiful snowflakes with ease, and the best way to get it down is...........drum roll please.......................yep, practice. If I can offer some advice... try a few patterns with a minimum number of picots like # 21,or 27 from your book. Or possibly try a slightly more "solid" center like #40, 44, or 48. You just might find yourself finding the right tension - one more thing, --Once you find it, you'll always have it. (Kind of like riding a bike!) BTW - lots of the flakes from our list are great beginner patterns too- I especially like the 10 you'll find at http://www.sarahanns.com/crochetworks/snowflakes.html - but that's just me Good luck and please let us know how you make out. cyn13013 Posted September 13, 2008 sOCKsgirl, you will find snowflakes are addictive and the people arround here will be encouraging you to try new things (diagram patterns for me - finished). Good luck. Working my first beaded flake today. Cyn

Also, feel free to work them up in yarn - or start with a larger thread and hook... What size are you using? Size 3 thread is not much different from a fine baby-weight yarn, you could work your way down to being comfortable ... it really is worth it, though, they look so lovely in anything, but especially in the finer threads (10 or below). I need to go attend to my little ones, but will be back to join the cheering squad
