"snowflake mondays" a past post i had seen UPDATE WEEK #4

Hi, everyone. I'm currently in Texas and the patterns are back in Georgia. Won't be back there to work on them until the very end of the month. Kim (the lady I care for) and her mom and I are here visiting Kim's grandchildren while their parents are gone to Missouri for job related classes. Kim hasn't had a chance to see them in a year and a half and they have changed a lot in that time. The 3 1/2 year old doesn't really remember her at all. Things are going well, if a bit chaotic. I love the look of the crystal flake.

You have your hands full! We'll have to be patient and wait for your designing return. In the meantime I hope someone has a pattern for this week. I'd love to see a new flake today.

I've been thinking too about the Sundays in August. I wonder how many of us (there really aren't many in our group) will be participating in the crochet games? I will be frantically making rectangles - I've pledged 100, 6 x 9 in the 16 days (Aug 8 - 23?). I don't want to take the time away from flakes so I'm going to look now for some patterns in case none get posted then----------- unless someone isn't doing the games??????? Hint-hint........ :) Does anyone want to volunteer?

Hmmm... I am doing the CGAG in August, too... I probably should change it to a snowflake challenge, but am kind of excited about my filet project...

Hard to believe we are at another week already!

How about this one? I think we've done a different one of her's previously, this one looks interesting (and maybe a bit tricky...)

http://hometown.aol.com/stitchvvwitch/page1.html

I am working on a flake (occasionally)... I really like the center, but haven't been able to come up with branches/points that satisfy me (and I feel the center itself is not quite enough...)

Hope things go well in TX, Linda...

Nancy, I won't volunteer to be responsible for posting the flakes during the games but I'm certain to hop in like now if something isn't posted, and if I've done my flake by then I'll throw it in there... for me it is not so much competition with crocheting time that limits my time for posting, etc, but my competition with kids and hubby for computer time. If I get work on my child free days, I'll be low on the posting side, more active if I have them as at-home days :D...

Cheers,

I've just been lurking on this thread but check it several times a week. I'm working on flakes as well. I love all the links you folk have posted.:clap

I'm not working straight through the list but skipping along.

I'm using size 20 thread and am on the hunt for glitter glue. I plan on having one large blocking party when I'm finished.

I'm cheating by tatting a few flakes as well. I just learned to tat and I need the practice! :lol So hopefully this Christmas, I'll have enough flakes to put in Christmas cards and a few left over for my tree!

Hi Michelle and Welcome!

Tatting's not cheating.... it just makes me envious! :yes

I've tried and failed to learn tatting several times.

I have it on my list of things to try again... someday.

Hope to see you here again,

I watched some videos on youtube that really helped me see what I was supposed to be doing. I tatted 2 last night while watching Mystery on PBS. I just love Sunday nights when Mystery is on.

I plan to stitch the crystal snowflake and the poinsettia one today.

Nancy, I tried and failed to pick up tatting years ago. This winter I saw information on needle tatting and I'm actually have a fair amount of luck with it. I've finished a medalion done that way and have another almost done. You might want to try that.

I'm participating in the Games, too, so won't have much time for snowflakes during those 2 weeks either.

Hi Linda,

I don't think I've heard of needle tatting. I'm going to Google it next. Thanks! What are you making for the games?

And, Thanks Michelle for the You Tube info. I'll going there too. I like Mystery on PBS too.

Now, if I can finish my Filet Swap a week early, I can dig out my tatting shuttle and go to the craft store for needle tatting supplies........ Oh heck ya, I have pleanty of time to learn some new skills before the games start! :rofl:dance:rofl

My great nieces are coming to stay for 5 days starting Thursday. They're 5 & 4. I'm their full time sitter but their Mom, (my niece) is a teacher & on summer vacation so we haven't seen them much lately.

Happy crocheting,

Needle tatting uses needles to make the loops so I end up with loops and rings that are consistent. (My biggest problem when I tried it before was that nothing came out the same.)

For the games I'll be working on a quilt afghan in 8 colors that I designed a while ago. My goal will be to get 200 of the 300 squares crocheted and joined during the games. It will be a Christmas present for an aunt of mine who quilts. 1/3 of the squares that it's made of are solid and 2/3 are bi-color which ups the difficulty considerably. And with 8 colors I have to be careful that I pair up the right colors. The colors aren't as vivid here as they will be in the actual quiltghan, but it gives you some idea of what the design is like.

Linda,

It's very nice, and your own design too. Wow! I'm sure your Aunt will love it. Looks like you'll be very busy at the games. Good Luck! I hope you win a gold medal.

Thank you ladys for all the lovely snowflakes and links and ideas. I even liked the dummy :devil suggestion for snowflakes. :lol I am still trying to finish my doily along CAL, so am unsure when I will start and if I will do all that is suggested. But all have been eye candy for sure! Love all the posting of pictures. :think I will have to see if I can fit one of these in somewhere. Thank you to all the 'villies that keep up the fun posts and jump in to help with supporting words!

Hi Carla,

I saw your post at the snowflake show and tell. Thanks for all your kind words. I agree, everyone here can sure pick nice patterns! While they're all very nice patterns, my favorites are the originals like Marika's and Linda's. It's cool to say "yep, that one was designed by someone I know!"

I'm going to join you in your offer to Hookerangel too. I'll see how many I can find to send for her daughter's wedding too.

That looks great, I think we can pop it on as this week's flake (early, no less ;) aren't we impressive? :lol)

:clap Great. Geeze I spend more time at 'ville and looking through my patterns than crocheting. :lol

I know it not Sunday, but I went though my patterns and found this link, http://www.******/crochet/snofla.html ,for another snowflake. Anyone interested?

Very pretty snowflake. Thanks Carla. I'm doing saltines for my Painted Desert quiltghan and filet crochet projects while here in Texas. I didn't have a lot of space so tried to work mostly with thread while here. I was having saltine withdrawal though, so bought 4 skeins of yarn for the Painted Desert and have 12 saltines to go to have 2 6x6 blocks crocheted. The first is a picture of the 1st 8 blocks of the Painted Desert assembled and the second is the pattern for one of the filet crochet projects I've been working on. Caylor is the last name of the couple I work for and live with. It's a Christmas present for them.

Hi Linda,

Beautiful work! I love the colors. I just charted a filet project too--- but I can't show it to you yet. It's for my swap partner. I like the font you used for the name.

And, Hi Carla,

Thanks for the snowflake pattern. I'm sure we'll be doing more of yours here - like maybe a "Carla" original next Sunday? LOL - talk about a teaser!

One more thing,

I posted a photo of our snowflake's over in Show and Tell a while ago. There have been some very nice compliments for all of us posted there. Just wanted to let you know.

Welcome!

I'm glad you decided to "officially" join us. LOL I'm making doubles now too for a care package to Ireland.

If anyone else is interested - Marika, Linda, Carla, and I have offered to help a ville member (Hookerangel) in Ireland decorate for her daughter's wedding.

You can read the thread here:

http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=79473&page=2

As always, "The more, the merrier." :D

I'd like to suggest a pattern for this week if it's OK with everyone?

Carla has designed a beautiful snowflake that's here under "original patterns".

Carla, you're good. You join us and bring a present! Thanks!

What do you think? Week 30?

:welcome! from me, too, Carla -- Thank you Marika. How is the weather in AU?:flake It is sultry here in SC.:fan

I should probably say that the 'flakes are made but need to be stiffened. I finished 6 and I've started on 7. (:juggle:crocheting to catch up, but hard when :compute here at the ville :lol)
