What To Make for a Thirteen Year Old Girl...

Recommended Posts

:think Any ideas? I have all boys, so... :P I know; I am a girl, but I have forgotten what a thirteen year old girl likes~ and I can guarantee it probably isn't what I used to like! (Mud, sticks, bugs, snakes...) :lol Who has thirteen year old girls that is 'in' on what's cool? I was thinking AJ's wrist bag? Any more ideas? :hook (It's for my niece, in Texas, if that helps any..)

Bags & purses are always a good idea. Also, those fingerless gloves are getting to be really popular now. And anything unique...my friend's 12 yr old loves wierd stuffed animals...like the kind you THINK you might maybe be able to figure out, but you're not totally sure...she's got quiet an agamori collection....;)

I just recently made one of those alphabet pillows for a 15 year old, and she went gaga for it:

Does she have a cell phone, or mp3 player? What about a little pouch to wear around her neck?

Does she have a favorite animal? KristieMN has many animals that work up VERY quickly and are cute as buttons!

What about jewelry?

Hope that helps!

I asked my 13 yr old.

Scarf's... she is making herself one from the SNB book.

She also said hats..not winter, but a lacy hat.

Also, they will never admit it..but they love stuffies. She got one for her

13th b-day, it sits on her bed all day.

You know, that could also be because it was from a boy too though. :D

The twin girls next door are arround that age.. I would go for scarves, fingerless gloves, bags, and cushions ie for her bedroom.

Black goth fingerless glove are considered cool. It just depends on whether she is a girly girl or a bit out there. If that makes sence.

Any sort of purse, a narrow belt for jeans or a fancier one to wear around a t-shirt, jewellry, a lacy hat, especially one with a bit of embellishment such as a flower. (that's what my 17 year old suggests.)

edited to add: my dd loves that flower pillow that cupcake just posted! She says it's very cool!

Cool! Thanks everyone! I do not 'know' her... I once bought her a teddy bear from Chelsea Teddy Bear Factory (in Chelsea, MI) with a blue and yellow (MI colors) sweater that said 'Chelsea', and she LOVED it! (Her name is Chelsea obviously...) That was a couple years ago though.

Thanks for all the links, Cupcake and KnicKnac! :) I saw your letter pillow, KnicKnac, that was pretty cool! She might like that...I don't know what color her room is, and I don't know what she has as far as MP3 players and I'm almost positive she doesn't have a cell phone (if I know her mom).... AH! I hate not knowing what people like.... Well I wrote her a letter asking her a bunch of questions, so *maybe* she'll write back.. She also has a four year old sister and a seven year old brother (but, I have an idea what to make for them...)

Thank you everyone!! :hug And thanks for asking your daughters' opinions! They know what's cool right now, so that helps a lot!!

Oh- Edited to add: I have made her a 'skullcap' with a flower on it (Chelles' pattern) before, and her mom said 'All her friends call her a hippy when she wears that' (So I'm assuming she liked it...)

In addition to the other ideas, here some more.

Lipbalm holder, with flavered lipbalm in it. I ususally buy a chocolate flavored one. Also for the ring, I buy the one that comes with the spring clip (key ring).

Watchband:

Bookmarks. I made several of this book thong. I changed out the top bead for a letter bead and used the initial of the person getting it.

Thank you, EmpressBusyBee! I really like the lipbalm holder idea with the flavored lip balm (duh, I could have thought of that...) And the book thong with the initial bead instead, that's cool! (Maybe it will encourage summer reading which will make her mom happy, too...) :P

When I was that age my aunt used to always buy me a purse (she didn't crochet) and stuff it with all kinds of little cheap but fun and cute girl stuff like nail polish, lip gloss, hair accessories, bracelets...all that kind of fun stuff! I just LOVED it! So maybe you could make her a purse and do that!

I was kind of thinking along those lines, too. (Why I kind of liked the AJ's wristbag, and could fill it with 'stuff'.) Burt's Bees tinted lip gloss, or whatever cool little things I could find... :) I was going to do that for her younger sister, definitely. (She's four, so that'll be easy.)

:D

You already beat me to the suggestion of the bag of girly things. One thing to keep in mind though. Considering her age, you might want to be a little careful about what you put in this bag, especially since you don't know her. At that age, my mom used to let me wear a little bit of makeup and perfume, and she used to give that sort of stuff as gifts too. However, while the girls were thrilled, there were some moms who were not happy because they did not let their girls wear these things yet. I'd probably stick to things that don't have added color or a lot of added smel unless it's lotion or something.

If you have the time, perhaps a crocheted top of some kind...when we were at the fireworks last Sunday, I saw a young girl wearing a sleeveless crocheted top that had a sort of crocheted flower pattern.

Pam- I would like to make her a top or something, but then I feel like I have to make her little sister and her brother something. Plus, I already made them all something *big*~ I made both the girls ponchos, hats, and matching doll ponchos, and I made their brother a 'Spidey' afghan. (Post #135- not finished, but...) I don't have a picture of their ponchos here (and photobucket is down today) because they are kn*tted.( :eek ) Thanks for the idea, though. ;)

  • 11 months later...

It's only, what- a year later?.... :lol But, they came up for a week to visit, a couple months ago. The niece I was trying to figure something out to make for? Well. I found out (just by observing), she likes to draw. And, she does wear headbands, but the super skinny plastic ones. (She kept leaving one at our house..) :P I think maybe the purse with *stuff* in it would be a good one for her. With smelly (fruity) chapsticks, and pencils, probably! (To draw with..) :yes I think I was right on for ideas for the boy. But, the little girl is nothing like what I thought! (I had only saw pictures of her all her life, hardly ever saw them or got to know them at all.) Funny.

head wraps are very "in" right now. the fbb would be quick and cute, maybe with some beads. hobo bags are in, so are the necklaces with crochet over the big wooden beads (very in!). thick belts around the waist are in.

What about shrugs and boleros? I've seen some lovely patterns made with the finer yarns and threads that aren't too heavy for warm weather. Headbands and scrunchies are also nice since I know my 13 and 14 year old DDs love to play with their hair. Or maybe a nice but not too thick sweater for the evenings when she goes out with her friends?
