semi-offensive commercial

I saw it two nights ago. I think it was a commercial for e-bay. They show an old lady in a rocker, and a young man coming out of the room with a great pair of mittens.He goes on and on about how no one wants homemade stuff--get the good stuff, cheap! Then at the end, he smells the mittens and says "they even smell like church!"

 

I couldn't beleive what I was seeing.

It's odd that I just read this now, as I've just finished watching a documentary about the mass-production of Christmas goods in Asian countries and the conditions they're made in. I'm not all too keen on mass-produced stuff in general, but this has made me more determined not to buy anything like that this Christmas and ask friends and family not to buy it for me. It's sad that there are actually commercials that actively encourage people to go out and buy conveyor-belt products and show disdain for things made by hand.

I'll bet if he was cold enough or not able to afford mittens he would be thankful for the hand crocheted ones. Spoiled generations.

I agree too that is a terrible ad to put that on TV. I agree what Arlinka said but, to add couple things to it no respect for disable seniors, elderly and values or consideration for others.

Has anyone thought of contacting Ebay to complain....That's what I'm about to do. I saw the commercial as well and it REALLY ticked me off!!!

I might not ever see it then, lol.....we only get the local broadcast channels so there is a lot on tv that I never see. that is a good thing sometimes, like in the case of this ad:lol

No, I have not seen that commercial either and hope I never do. It is a sad state that we are in when handmade gifts are basically being ridiculed as well as the elderly. I, for one, do not do Ebay nor PayPal (but mean no disrespect to those who either sell or buy from them).

 

Commercialism seems to be the only thing now.

Well, after saying yesterday morning I hadn't seen the commercial, I was watching tv Sunday evening when it came on. Absolutely in poor taste. And all I kept remembering was the year that a friend of mine (we used to exchange small presents at Christmas years ago) opened my gift and the first words out of her mouth were "I was hoping it would be something you made yourself". That said it all!!! This guy should take a lesson from her.
