Care to learn Bruges lace CAL?

Having understood the basic principles of this technique, I felt I must start a doily. Not having the skills to design one myself, I managed to find a pattern that looked comparitively easy. It is not yet complete, but I am quite pleased with it, and felt I must post about it.

Oh I was eyeing and afghan pattern (don't think I'll do it now, changed my mind) and saw a burges lace doily. It was in a magazine, "hooked on crochet, nov/dec 1993" called "hearts and holly". It was a simple lace then joined to form a circle (with a large open center) and the doily was worked from that point on. Looked pretty simple. Thought I'd mention that in case anyone has the old magazine.

I saw a pic online of a neat heart shape made in Bruges. I was thinking that 4 of them made together would be a good start on a ghan. Problem is my complete lack of spacial awareness, I find it very hard to follow the diagrams that twist and turn so I just have to go more slowly.

I am making the prototype in cotton so I will have a hot mat when ( (she says foolishly) I get this done. It would be so great if I could make those four hearts. :dreaming Well, I will give it some time here and there.

Life is just never boring :eek

The doily is far from complete, but I felt I must post this picture. You can see that it is made in segments, which makes it fairly simple for a beginner to tackle.

Absolutely gorgoues! :clap

I'm working on another doily in burges lace using an idea from the first post link then adding some more rounds. Yes I still have my shawl as a WIP... I'm sure it will get done eventually...

I was just searching patterns and found this.

Lagoon Doily at Free Patterns Central. I'm sure it's bruges lace, it just calls it a Crochet Braid and even with the spaces between the DC it's bruges.

[forgive me if this has been posted, I haven't been to this CAL forever... my 2 bruges lace doilies are WIPs:blush]

it does look like Bruges.

For me, Bruges lace is something I am keeping at the back of my mind as a trim for a baby blanket or something like that. The interwoven ones are just too hard for me to navigate :sigh

Found this site that has free Bruges lace doily patterns. They are gorgeous, but they are beyond my comfort level. I haven't even attempted using a chart like these have for making doilies. Maybe sometime if I am feeling up to a challenge I can give it a try. Anyhow, thought you ladies might be interested.

There's other patterns there using the Bruges lace. Enjoy!
