a simple knitted/crochet present for a man in his mid forties maybe a remote holder? Any sudjestions would be great!

I think a remote holder is great. I also like scarfs, if it's getting cold. An afghan is appropriate if you have time and want something that big. If it's cold enough a hat and scarf would be nice.

Depends on how well you know him and if you know his likes and dislikes.

I'd probably go with a hat and scarf if I didn't know much about him. If he was my husband or other reletive that I knew, I might go with an afghan in his college (or football team) colors.

Those are my suggestions.

for my grown sons I made car blankets ... smaller versions of afghans for them to leave in the car for those times the heater goes out or they want something soft to sit on at a game ...

belive me he has a cell phone but cant even turn a computer on! so no i pod or anything, i have started to make a remote holder, but i would also like to through in something small to lie a magnet, anyone know of any hunting tyoe magnets?

I'm not finding a remote holder pattern, (like a lounge chair caddy, right?)but I'd think it would be just a rectangle about 8" wide, long enough to drape across and down the arm of your chair, plus enough to fold over for pockets--kind of like a book cover.
