.... But I crochet afghans for Animal Shelters in my area. They are always in need of towels and blankies for the critters. I have recieved so many photos of the animals new homes with their blankets! lol (mushy hearted here) **sigh**

I also make newborn blankies to give out at the 2 hospitals in my area with batteries and fire detectors for new mothers. We lost our nephew in a house fire 3 years ago and started a fund for this. I really enjoy adding my blankie to it. Heather

Crazy no way I'm such an animal lover. Animals need cuddles too, my 2 chi's give me so much love. I just look at them and smile. When I'm sad they know it and cuddle up closer to me. My female chi Bella even wakes me up in the night if my blood sugar is low, she's saved me a few times.

I'm planning to make those snuggle blankets to , just working on other charity stuff right now.

So sorry about your loss at least you can help people in his memeory:hug :clap

Heather,

Not crazy at all. :bounce I'm sure it would be lovely to see all the animals with their new blankets. I am also an animal lover. I would also love to make a blanket or sweater for my dogs.

Sorry for the loss in your family. It is always nice to have the opportunity to help especially to those who have nothing to give in return.:heart

First of all, sorry inthe loss of your nephew. Terrific idea to give fire detectors and batteries to new mommies.

Secondly, you are not crazy for thinking of animals. There is a website at http://www.h4ha.org that also does that.

I have done baby afghans, hats, scarves, headbands for charity and am now going to add blankets for the animals in the shelters so they have something warm and cozy to sleep on. After all, they are people too. (I think Radar said that in a MASH episode).

i'm sorry for your loss:cry how heartbreaking., i don't think you are crazy at all. animals are like people, they have feelings and express so much love, and they get cold too, i even use a little heater for my kitties when it gets cold, and they are in the rec room(patio area) which is inclosed, but still gets cold there. so i understand. my heat bill is out of this world though:rotfl i think i will make some blankies for the furbabies out there. thanks for the idea.:hug vicki:bounce

I keep forgetting to post on this thread.

First, I am very sorry about your nephew. The smoke detector program is a wonderful tribute to him.

Second, you are in the company of plenty of animal nuts around here Check out the "Pets" thread in the get to know you forum.

Also, in the Crochet-Along section, we are starting to do quarterly charity crochet alongs. 2nd quarter is going to be small blankets with suggested recipients being Project Linus and/or animal shelters! So be sure to join us for that one!

Thank you all for your kinds words. This is sure a sweet and busy site!

The loss of my nephew was horrid. He was only 2 (would have been 6 next week) and his twin brother survived, but I think my little Ricky was trying to prepare me for my daughter's death.

She died in a car accident almost a year ago. She would have been 16 in August, died 2 weeks before she was to get her learners permit. Died with her best friend who was driving.

On the 31st it will be a year. I am amazed I am still living to tell you the truth. But, I have my 3 boys and all my critters to love and take care of. They need me. I can not protect Sissy anymore, but I still have my boys to protect. I will love all 4 of my children forever.

See what I mean? I had never had a "tragic" death in my life history! Then within 3 years these 2 sweethearts were ripped from my grip.

Hug your children. Tell them how much you love them. I do it daily, so much they roll their eyes most of the time! LOL Boys! HA!

(((((((((CrochetingRev))))))))))) I'm sorry for your losses! I learned to crochet just to do stuff for charity. I lost two babies to miscarriage and I have done many projects in their honor.

I want to branch out into some animal shelter gifts this year because we just adopted a kitty from a wonderful rescue group and I would love to make them some items to say thanks. But blankies are my calling...

hugs to all the wonderful charity crocheters!!!

only crazy for luvin' animals like I am!!:)h

That's what got me back into crocheting was my love for animals...someone gave me a bag of wool cause i wouldn't let them throw it away and I used it up making some snuggle blankies for dogs and cats in shelters. I have now made and donated, in a year, over 230 blankies, kitty beds and dog sweaters for 4 different shelters in my city. Two newspapers even did stories on my snuggle project and people throughout the city donated more wool to me for it. Talk about feeling rewarded!! Makes me feel so good everytime I do a drop-off of blankies.

First of all I was saddened by your losses. It just show what we can do with any situation given us.

I am so pleasantly surprised to see so many ready to crochet for animal shelters. I recently came across the website for Snuggles and can not think of a better way to us my yarn scraps and skein ends. They are also looking for crocheted balls for the animals. I made a sample and "Lizzy", my daughters dog loves it. I decided I would learn the different stitches in my "63 crochet stitch book" while making small pet blankets.
