I love making these sandals! I recently designed my own soles. I made them with a double thickness and I like them better than the ones in the pattern because I couldn't find the jute in the right thickness that is called for in the pattern and the soles in the first 2 that I did exactly to the pattern, but using 2 strands together, were a bit too floppy for my liking, so I designed mine with the Jute that is easily found here.

 

I think that they are really comfy and now my mom, my husband and kids want me to make them all a pair! The kids one that my son was modeling was for someone else and they were too small for my daughter anyway.
