Piggy Bag

My sister-in-law was browsing through one of my tapestry crochet books and saw a pig motif that was worked into a coin

purse. She asked me if I could turn it into a bag for her. The motif came from the book titled More Tapestry Crochet by Carol

Ventura. Carol has posted a picture of the finished coin purse at her flickr account. The photo can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14714525@N02/2485883069/in/photostream. The coin purse was made using size 3 thread.

We discussed what the final dimensions of her bag would be, but the final result was just a bit off. Normally, I like to use my size 0 hook, but I ran into issues with getting the dimensions to turn out right. I re-worked all the math for another base that included an additional pig motif, but that made it turn out completely wrong. I went back to the first set of math that I did and went up one hook size and everything

turned out much better. It's only a bit longer than the original thought. I'd have to say that the biggest challenge to this project was that the repeat was more than 20 stitches in length. With such a large repeat, it made it more difficult to get the bag to turn out to the original dimensions that were discussed. As I got closer to finishing the bag, I thought about what kind of strap to make. I opted for the look of leather straps that are sewn on.... but mine were crocheted of course :)

Gorgeous job, especially what with all the work involved in changing the size! I'm wondering what the approximate size of your bag is- looks like 9 by 12".

It gauged out to be 4X9 with a height of 8.5 inches :)
