hi and welcome to the Ville:hook

as far as i know there were some yarns called cordette, but as a technique i have no idea what cordette would be. Where did you see the leash and collar, in real life or as a picture?

hello again, thank you for your input. the cordette crochet i am looking for is a technique. i saw it in the clearance section of the gwlittle.com site. i also found a purse using the same technique on chaincreative.blogspot.com./2008_04_01_archive.htm/ . they are both done in the same style and both in crochet cord not yarn. i just fell in love with the look and am dying to make the collar and leash for my roxy. i would have purchased them but they only had large sizes left. i'm hoping someone out their can help me.

so is this the kind of thing you want? http://www.gwlittle.com/product/crystal_cordet_little_dog_collar/pink_fashion_for_dogs I can't tell from the photos if the collar is really crocheted, things are often mislabeled and macrame gets called crochet etc.

I'm not sure what kind of currently-produced yarn has that look to it. Also i don't know where you would find the fastening.

you can search on the Ville for dog collars, and for cordet/cordette to see if there are previous threads that might help.

They're rather pretty collars :) I can'y help on the stitch but if you look in the sewing & trimming department (Haberdashery?) of a store they would most likely have the fasteners and a suitable thin cord and you could work up your own version

I think this is where you would want to start: http://ebookbrowse.com/crocheted-freeedging-and-insertions-book-2-by-adeline-cordet-pdf-d6189369 It is from a book showing the crochet style of Adeline Cordet which I guess was reprinted in 2005 from the original Victorian era books. They graciously allow you to make copies of the patterns. I do not think they are exactly like the ones on G.W. Little but they are the same style. Might see if you could get an old copy of her book for more selections -- she published books in 1917 and 1918 -- there are some on ebay.

today I was at an LYS and saw some OnLine Toledo yarn http://www.knittingfever.com/c/yarn/on-line-toledo-l255/

It is like a cord and pretty shiny, looks like the material in the dog collar. it should be fairly strong as it contains acrylic and nylon. so just thought I'd mention that:hook
