Christmas Ideas for my niece who crochets and knits.

Recommended Posts

In another post, I spoke about my niece who is 20 and can crochet and knit.

What are some books and other things that I can get her for Christmas that would be for crochet or knitting. I am sure she's into things for younger people so I don't know what is in for crocheters.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

How about a gift certificate for a craft store in her area? And/or, if you want to do more, pick up some notions like a few stitch markers, knitting stitch gauge, a few sizes of crochet hooks (odd sizes like L, M, N) some yarn needles (for doing seams), needle point protectors (keeps your knitting on your needles when not knitting) etc and put them in a little crocheted stocking with the gift certificate. A person can always use the notions! And it would be a nice way to present the gift certificate by giving you something to wrap and her to 'open'! That way, she can pick out yarn or books that she doesn't have and that she is interested in making!

I persoanlly think for crochet for the younger crowd, that it's all about accessories!!! Scarves and cowls, hats, purses. That's what I'm seeing alot of.

But if she is newer to crochet, she may not have alot of "notion" supplies, so I agree with the above poster, that something like that would be liked and appreciated........just wanted to add, a row counter too. Or maybe being younger (college, part time job....) she may not have the extra $ to buy really nice yarn, so a gift cert to a local yarn store, or if not that the local craft store.

I think crocheters are easy to please. For instance, I have been crocheting for years, I have TONS of yarn in my stash, but if someone bought me yarn for Christmas, I'd be thrilled! :)

The "younger generation" is really into all kinds of different hats and scarves. How about a kit put together by you for a hat and scarf with the pattern, nice yarn in her favorite colors and the required size hook?

That's a great idea. She was working with some bumpy yarn, so I could probably find some nice yarn like that. Thanks for the idea.

Clover makes some really clever products that I've been wanting. They're generally called something like knot templates or yo-yo makers (I have no idea why). But you simply wrap cord/yarn around the template to make them.

There is something called the "Knit Kit" and it is a pocket sized item that has a row counter, tape measure, needle covers, folded scissors etc. I have one on my Amazon wish list. You can google or search Amazon.

This is a great idea. I bet she'd love it.

Ooo, and a while back someone here referred to those great fingerless gloves as "texting gloves", which is something the "younger generation" could also relate well to...Like Renni suggested, creating a "kit" would be cool!
