Airy January Snowflake

I designed this snowflake to have an open airy feel, because in Minnesota January snow tends to be light and fluffy. It's too cold to be wet and heavy. :lol :lol These were worked with number 10 crochet thread and a size 7 steel crochet hook and measure about 3 inches in diameter.

Abbreviations:

ch = chain

sl st = slip stitch

sc = single crochet

dc = double crochet

dtc = double triple crochet

ch4p = chain 4 picot

tccl = triple crochet cluster

Special stitches:

chain 4 picot: chain 4, slip stitch in stitch before the chain 4

triple crochet cluster: crochet 3 triple crochet stitches in same stitch keeping last loop of each triple crochet on hook, yarn over and work off all 4 loops on hook at once.

Snowflake Instructions:

Ch 6, join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join with sl st in 1st sc.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in joining st, ch 5, dtc in next sc, *ch 6, dtc in next sc, ch 1, dtc in next sc*, repeat around ending with ch2, dc in 4th ch of starting ch 5.

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 5, tccl in space between the next 2 dtcs, ch 5, sc in next loop*, repeat around ending with sl st in 1st sc.

Round 4: Ch 1, sc in joining st, ch4p in sc, *ch 8 tccl in top of tccl, ch4p in tccl just made, ch 8, sc in next sc, ch4p in sc just made*, repeat around ending with ch 8, sl st in beginning sc.

Fasten off. Starch & block.

Thanks so much for posting this pattern. I plan to work it up today after a quick bike ride. Here in Maryland we might hit a high of 60 degrees! Nice mid-winter break. I am SO ready for spring. :yay

We're supposed to get into the mid to upper 60's today, too. Have fun on your bike ride. I'm ready for spring, too.

Thanks Linda! Lovely flake! (as always!)

The snow is quickly melting away here in western PA, and what's left is NOT anything you'd want to look at! Thanks for brightening our day!
