Clamshell Facial Scrubbie Gift Set

This one holds 9 scrubbies/coasters. Perfect to take as a thoughtful gift for someone in the hospital, a teacher, a co-worker. Works up quickly. I make large face cloths first and then use the left over yarn to make the scrubbies. There are more pictures on my blog, along with patterns for the facial scrubbies.

Round 7: repeat row 7

Stop here if you only need to hold 8 or 9 scrubbies, repeat Rnd 6 if you want more room for 12 scrubbies.

contrast trim

rnd 8: ch 1, sc in each st around, change to trim color, join with sl st to first sc. (48 sc) Change colors as you join.

rnd 9: ch 1, sc in each st around, change to second trim color, join with sl st to first sc. (48 sc) Change colors as you join.

When making the case for scrubbie pattern 2, in Large and number 3 , add a row of (sc, next st, 2 sc next st) around. Join with a sl st to first sc. This goes between rnd 3 and 4 on the base.

Optional Lid

Round 1: ch 2, 12 dc in 2nd ch from hook, join with sl st to first dc.

Round 2: ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc around, join with sl st to first dc. (24 dc)

Round 3: ch 3, dc in same st, *(1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeat from *, join with sl st to first dc. (36dc)

Round 4: ch 1, *(2 sc, 2 sc in next dc), repeat from * around. Join with sl st to first sc. Ch 5, join to next sc making small loop to shut case.

Weave in ends.

Find joining column, count 5 stitches to the right of joining stitch. Attach main color, fold lid in half and mark back center with a saftey pin. Count

out 5 stitches to the right. Whip stitch your lid to the base, I do it over about 10 stitches, you can do more or less.

Last is the button, choose either contrasting color, I switch to a smaller hook, on this cotton I will use an F hook.

rnd 1: ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st to join

rnd 2: ch 1, sc in each sc around, sl st to join

Make sure you don't have that hole in the center, gather and close it if you do. I use the center yarn and weave it to the outside, where I gather the edge, a running stitch if you sew. Pull this tight and knot with your outside yarn. Weave the short yarn back in your button and cut off.

Use the long outside yarn to sew your button to match where your loop hits on the side of you base.
