Yay!!! I like it. As soon as I get my darned yarn, I'm going to add it to my site.

I have yarn coming in for the shawl I NEED to make, and the poncho yarn will be coming around a little after that. I'll have enough to keep me warm (and busy! eep!)

I checked out the pattern - very "trendy". I like how you can have the pattern emailed to you to avoid shipping and handling costs.

Ok. I'm in. A successful trip to Michael's, and I've chosen to try this out in some sock yarn. Yup. It's the only thing I liked that I could justify the cost of, so we'll see how it goes!

Thank you! :)

How to display and link the button:

<a href="http://pub119.ezboard.com/fcrochetvillefrm32.showMessage?topicID=6.topic"><img src="http://img45.photobucket.com/albums/v138/dbelle/crochet/ponchorama2.jpg" width="88" height="31" border="0" vspace="3" alt="Poncho-rama"></a>

Anyone can paste the code above in her blog or web site exactly as it is, with no changes, and the button will appear and it will be linked to the Poncho Crochetalong topic here at Crochetville. It grabs the image from my photobucket account. If you want to save the image on your own server/web space, just change this part: http://img45.photobucket.com/albums/v138/dbelle/crochet/ponchorama2.jpg

The border="0" stops there from being an extra border around the image because it is linked. Without border="0", there would be a border around it the same color as the rest of the links on your page.

The vspace="3" (meaning 3 pixels of vertical space) keeps the button from being jammed right up against other buttons or text that are above or below the button.

The alt="Poncho-rama" is the text that displays when someone puts their mouse on the button.

My boy did it for me, but thanks for the explanation. I will be able to do it without him next time :b I put the button up on LJ already. I linked it to Crochetalongs instead of straight to Crochetville.

Will you be joining us?

I'm off to buy yarn in a few minutes. I just hope I will be able to decide which to get before they close.

Hi kids.

I've been experimenting and searching around. Marlo has some samplers in her free pattern section that may be inspiring to you: <a href="http://www.marloscrochetcorner.com/patterns.html" target="_new">Marlo's Crochet Corner</a>.

If I'm a good girl and get all of my work done, I'm going to spend the rest of the day designing my sock yarn poncho.

Oh, the peer pressure! faint.gif I'm not a poncho kinda gal, though I think they look lovely on other people, just not me, lol!

I wasn't planning on joining, but thanks to the e-yarn link posted by Margaret, I have found something I could do. If this one is okay, then I'm in. I'm afraid its mostly hdc. That's like a little dc, though, right? :rollin

It's definietly not a light and springy pattern, but I'm always cold anyway.

This is the poncho that I'm working on right now. I like the bright colors in it. 8)

I think I am going to try making one of the other poncho patterns in my Patons Divine yarn though. I think it would look great at the wedding I'm going to in 5 weeks, so I might have to start working on it sooner! :)

I've been wanting to make a poncho, a light weight one for spring/summer but dont' know about my ability to follow a crochetalong. :blush I'm new at all this. Can I kind of tag along and watch?:^i^

How are you keeping track of everybody? Are they going to a specific chat sight? or here? or photos somewhere?

Thanks for the info and help:Y

The rules are stated earlier in this thread as well as on my LiveJournal. You are more than welcome to tag along if you don't feel up to going it alone.

When we have questions or just want to blab, we come here. Nobody has really said anything yet as to her progress except on individual blogs. Feel free to ask questions. We'll do our best to help each other out.

Since the group is not following a particular pattern, I have no real idea how this will turn out; so, this is will be a learning experience for us all.

**********

Just to update: I've ripped out my poncho twice already. Well, technically, three times. I think I have finally figured out what stitch pattern I'm going use. Famous last words...:rolleyes

How is everybody else's poncho coming along?

I love your poncho pics!!! :clap

Just don't know if I have the skill/time to do this as I just started a tank top and my shawl project just went south in a bad way!:blush

What kind of yarns are you all using and prices, too, please. ;)

I love the look of these and I would wear them!:woohoo

The poncho pictures came from e-bay. Somebody from another board and someone here were talking about them. That's where the idea to start this whole thing came from.

As for my poncho, I'm using Vienna (100% Baumwolle mercerisiert, gasiert), a mercerized cotton that I got at Wolle Rödel, a local yarn store, for 1,45 € per ball. The yarn is really nice, but much thinner than I'm used to using which lead to me pulling it out three times already. I think I've finally found a stitch that's a keeper, but I'm only on the second row. Hopefully, I haven't spoken too soon.;)

Can I ask what tank top you're making?

I am in on this crochet along. I saw a poncho just like these on the show Malcolm in the Middle and on Still Standing. I love them. I am designing my own. When I have worked up the pattern a bit to see if it will work well I will share pictures.

Assuming you've read the rules, just add the button to your site, linking it back to here, and you're ready to go. I'll add your name to the list of participants, which I keep on my LiveJournal.

Welcome to the group!

if you can figure out how to make the wrap using dc, I'm sure you could join in.
I guess I'll have to sit this one out, then. I'm not a big fan of dc. I'll still be cheering you guys on, though.

I'm not a big fan of dc.

Sorry that the stitch doesn't appeal to you. I just picked dc because I thought there would be more improvisational possibilities. Since I forgot my copy of the Harmony Guide back in NC, I realize now that there aren't that many dc variations online. It's all a learning experience, right? Like realizing yesterday that I won't have near enough yarn to finish my project.:\

:woohoo Thanks! After my revelation yesterday, I think I'll need as big a cheering section as we can muster.:) I'm almost positive the other participants appreciate your support as well.

Sorry that the stitch doesn't appeal to you.
Although not my favorite, dc is a useful stitch, and I'd bet it's probably one of the most widely used stitches overall. I know you gals will come up with some fab ways to incorporate it. :D I guess I'm just not feeling overly creative in the area of ponchos right now. :b

I won't have near enough yarn to finish my project.
pfirsch, what about buying a batch of complimentary yarn, and crocheting your poncho holding one strand of each together? You can make a little bit of yarn go a lot further that way. Since I've been buying thrift store sweaters and unravelling them, I've found that many of the prettiest sweaters are made of two or three strands held together. One I pulled apart had a strand of multicolored thick and thin yarn and a strand of glittery yarn. Another had a strand of soft, fluffy gray, a strand of plain, string-like white, and a strand of nubby white.
