Poncho Crochetalong

Thanks to 2junebugs4me, I have become inspired to attempt a poncho like this one or this one. So, my question is:

Does anybody want to do a Poncho Crochetalong?

Since there is no specific pattern and we'll be learning as we go, to tie them all together, there should be a theme of some sort--base the pattern on a particular stitch, specific yarn type, or an idea like Spring or puppies.

If there is any question about the basic construction of the poncho, read this first. We can iron out the details, as a group, after we get started.

I think this will be a fun experience and maybe we can even submit some of our creations to crochetme. I just hope somebody will want to join me.

Oh, boy. Those are gorgeous. I enacted a yarn-buying-freeze yesterday, but I may just have to break it already... Ack. Hmm. I'll see how quickly you get started, and then I'll let you know if I can really commit...

But this is a great idea!

jennmwalsh, as long as you fall under the theme, I may be able to make an exception. Since I don't have a blog, and you are already bucking the system ;) , you can see about creating a button for the Crochetalong.

Maybe I'll post the whole Crochetalong in my LiveJournal. How strange would it be to start this and not have anywhere to post the list of members? I don't use my LJ very much; now, I'll have an excuse to post things more often.

crochetme, I'm not sure how big your stash is; so, you may have to break the fast, but I was thinking you could just use up yarn that you already have. This is all about being creative and experimentation. I sincerely hope some of us can submit patterns to crochetme when we're done.

I still have to work out some details before we can "officially" start. I have an idea already for a theme. It's nothing too difficult in order to accommodate the various skill levels and to give each person a chance to experiment with designing. The possibilities are endless.

Does anybody have a good idea for a name? Poncho Crochetalong just doesn't do it for me. We need a better name since this poncho has that something extra special about it, or I like to pretend it does.

Thanks for the interest, ladies. I'll be back later on today.

Can I join in even though my poncho is half way done?

I've been making it for about 3 weeks, and I'm hoping to have it finished in the next week or two. I need it for my next camping trip the weekend after next so it has to be done. But as it gets bigger each round gets bigger, so it's taking me about 20 minutes per round now.

I'd love to join in! And I'd be MORE than willing to use some of my webspace for the crochet a long, I have so much space that I hardly use any of it. I just don't have time for coding anymore, so the site sits, mostly untouched & unupdated :( . I have some poncho (vintage) patterns on my site, if anyone is interested!! www.adultramblings.therapids.net.

Anyways I want to join in! Please share details! adultramblings AT therapids DOT net.

Hehe, this is fun. I tried to do something button like. It's bigger, I know, but I have NO experiance. I called it "Poncho-rama" and that can be changed, but I thought it sounded kind of cute :lol

So, here's what I did:

Ok, I really like these types of ponchos!! I want to join the poncho-along, but wont be able to start until after the weekend. The yarn looks very thin, what type of yarn do you think it is? I get the whole crochet a long scarf type thing and then sew the side together. This would be perfect for the spring/summer months to wear over a light shirt.

Okay, I will need everybody who wants to join to pfirsch AT gmx DOT net so that I can get a complete list of all the names. Please make the subject: Poncho-rama (this will just make it easier for me to sort through my mail)

Theme: The poncho must be a variation of double crochet (aka British/Australian treble crochet). All the stitches don't have to be dc (tr), but the majority should be. Be creative. If all you can manage is to do the whole thing in dc (tr), then so be it--just fancy it up around the edges or something.

Size: The original idea was to make a poncho that looked like

<img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/pfirsch/asymmetrical.jpg" />

Here you will find suggestions on how to make this particular poncho.

However, if you already have a pattern already in mind, then go ahead and use that one; at the very least, please remain within the theme.

Yarn & Color: Once again, be creative. Use what you have, buy new yarn, unravel a sweater you bought at the Salvation Army and use that. There are no limits. Since it's heading towards spring, I would suggest something lightweight.

We will officially begin tomorrow. Why? Because I'm the boss, that's why.;) Plus, it's after midnight here and I don't feel like starting a project tonight.

I will paste this on my Live Journal for reference.

If anybody has suggestions, ideas, buttons, comments, post them here.

Glad y'all could join me!

Pfirsch

P.S. jennmwalsh, the button is cool, but indeed a bit on the large side. I have no idea about buttons, but I know somebody here can help you out. Thanks for having it so quickly!

Ooh, I'm looking forward to this. I just bought yarn from Herrschnerr's, some white Patons Katrina. I'm going to try the top photo, and use my Harmony Guide to try to figure out a pattern.

I think maybe I can shrink the picture I did above. I'm going to try at least!

Question? I am working on my niece's poncho in this scarf like pattern, can I use this as my crochet along? I dont know when I will get to work on my own poncho since I will still have my mom's afghan to finish before Mother's Day next month (only have 4 of the 30 squares complete), and I will want to work on that so I can be done and set it aside, with a big sigh of relief ;)

So, can I, can I? huh huh? :lol I have done 7 rows so far, but it will work up quicker since it's considerably smaller than an adult poncho!

**Ha! Nevermind, I will be done with this poncho in a couple of days lol, it's really going that quickly! This is like my practice piece before I work on my poncho. So this wont be part of the crochetalong :pig **

This is really fun! I'm glad so many people are getting into this.:woohoo

So far, we are:

MommaChelle--Luv 2 Crochet Blog

adultramblings--Adult Ramblings

jennmwalsh--Finding Her

and me, pfirsch--Brown Sugar, LTD

Who else? I'll keep the list up on my LiveJournal. Y'all can also add the list to your respective blogs. I have no idea how long this will last; so, we'll just keep it going until everybody has a finished product or until nobody wants to play anymore, whichever comes first. Since I'm making this up as I go along, please feel free to correct me or put in your two cents.

jennmwalsh, how can we make the writing on the button readable next to the yellow? Different color? Different font? Now that I'm seeing the button from a different monitor, it doesn't look so huge anymore. Maybe we can keep it the same size and just work on the font. I'll E-mail you with some ideas.

Ok. So, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, I will buy yarn between now and tomorrow. I've already chosen a stitch and can't wait to get started!

Pfirsch

P.S. Sorry that all my posts are nine miles long.;)

Okay okay! I'm heading out to Michael's today, and if I find yarn that I love and that won't feel the need to lie to my husband about buying (<img border=0 src="http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif" />), then I'm in.

I'll send you an email if all goes accordingly.

Eeek!

Chelle, I loooove those poncho photos you linked to, and other ones at that site. Those could almost get me crocheting a poncho. ;) But I just don't know if I'd be able to pull off actually wearing one on my unfashionable self, lol! :lol

I want in!! But, I have to finish up a few projects first. :( So, I might be able to start it in a few weeks.. :)

I have some Patons Divine yarn crying out to be made into something. :) The first poncho pattern pic, I saw someone on the Wayne Brady Show wearing one in a cream color just like that and it looked really great.

It looked smaller cause I shrunk it...lol. I have no idea what to do to fix the text now, though, so I left it alone. Any ideas anyone?

Jenn, if you can send me the original (bigger) button and maybe also the pic (without the text) I can mess with it, if you want. donna[at]yarntomato[dot]com.

That yarn would be perfect! But I dont know about spending close to $9 per 3 1/2 oz ball. Quite expensive for me :( Maybe someday I will be able to purchase that for a poncho, but not today! Beautiful yarn though!!

Okay, here's what I did with it. I hope you think it remains true to your original idea, Jenn. It was too crowded with Crochetville on there, so I left it off, hope that's okay.
