I'm a beginning knitter, so I have to ask: how did you get the knitting and crocheting to go together? Make separate knitted pieces and crochet them on?

I used a crochet hook to pull up a row of loops over a crocheted row, (like when you crochet tunisian style) and then I would just replace the hook with knitting pins and knit from there. When I was done knitting, I would close it off the normal knitting way, and continue crocheting with the last remaining loop.

Looks great! I did the same thing with a bunch of yarn that I only had small skeins.
