How Do You Hold YOUR Hook?

I hold it over handed. I started with holding it like a pencil and I really struggled with it, so naturally my hold turned into overhanded. I doubt it hold it completely right but it works perfect for me.

Same thing with the yarn. I don't hold it completely right but it's the way that really helps me I fumble or make stitches too loose otherwise.

Like a pencil. I have giant hands, if I held it overhand there'd be no room for yarn on it

i've been told i hold my hook like a chopstick (?) , a modified pencil hold, i believe.

If I held my yarn the "right" way, it would probably work better when I hold my hook like a pencil. However, since I don't have my yarn the way I've been told it's supposed to be, I lose tension when I hold my hook like a pencil. Holding the hook overhanded works better with the way I hold my yarn. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but it works for me. LOL

I do both, it depends on the size of the hook I'm using. When working with thin crochet cotton and a small hook I hold it like a pencil, when crocheting with larger hooks and worsted weight yarn, I hold it overhand.

I hold my hook like a toddler holds a fork or spoon and I am left handed.

When I first started crocheting, I was most comfy holding it over-handed. Now, that feels uncomfy to me. I like holding it like a pencil.
