Snow Day Scarf

Recommended Posts

Well for some reason the people here in the great state of NC can't seem to function in half an inch of snow....so today there is a snow day and school was cancelled. THERE IS NO SNOW ON THE GROUND!!!!

My girls were happy and I don't mind having them home with me, I love spending time with them, but it makes no sense to me that school was cancelled.

Anyway, on to crochet things... I am working on a scarf for myself ( my last one is coming unravelled and I think I am going to frog it and start over) with black and grey Caron simply soft. It's so nice and thick and warm I can't wait to wear it.

Last night it took my husband 71/2 hours to get home from work. It usually takes him 45 minutes. People here have no frekin clue how to drive in this weather ( there was some ice and a bit of powder). We've been here 2 1/2 years and don't understand the way people panic.

<span style="font-family:comic sans ms; color:purple;">7 1/2 hours instead of the normal 45 minutes? <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/wha.gif" /> Holy cow!!! It sounds like the people here...a little dusting of snow and they seize up <img border=0 src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/TearHair.gif" />

Can't wait to see pics of your new scarf! I like the color combination you chose <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/veryhappy.gif" /></span>

Cant wait to see your scarf..

I know what you mean how ppl cant seem to drive around in a little bit of freaking snow..LOL.. I am here in Virginia and it took my daughter who is only 15 mins from here 45 mins to get home from school. Took my neighbor 2 hours to get home from her work that is only 20 mins away.. There was so many accidents on the roads and the freeways were piled up with accidents.. And the most cause of all of them were the truck drivers.. They DONT SLOW DOWN.. also the ones who drive 4 wheel drive.. They think they RULE the roads. And they are always the ones who you see on the sides in the ditches..

we live an hour north... He left at 2:30 and made it home by 5:30.... He WAS on 540 but it was such a mess he put his pick up truck to good use and did a little 4 wheelin to get on some back roads or he probably would ahve been sleeping in his truck!

At least your kiddos didn't have to sleep at school like some of the children.. taht would have been nuts! We are to get 2 more inches tonight

Wow! It must be nervewracking to live in that kind of snow panic. Up here (NY) we're so used to it we drive better in the snow than on bare roads, lol. Actually I think people here are starting to get a little antsy at the lack of snow this season.

maybe they called a snow day because the teachers were having a hard time getting to work! Sounds like traffic has been horrible for you!

We don't get snow days here in Southern California (some of the high mountain communities do, however) But that just makes our school year shorter. I'm very glad.

The scarves are wonderful! Great Job!

Okay, ladies, let's be a bit more understanding, k? There were indeed dangerous, icy conditions in NC. No, we don't get a lot of snow and therefore many people don't know how to drive in it. I don't see how people can be expected to know how to do something they rarely have to do. When we do get snow, it often comes with a lot of ice, which is totally different from snow. Not only that, but we do not have a huge arsenal of salt trucks, sand trucks, and snow plows. That makes a huge difference. 'Nuff said.

It's the same way in Virginia Beach/Norfolk when it snows. People (that aren't from northern climes) just aren't used to it and don't know how to drive in it. There aren't enough snow plows and other equipment to clear the roads, much less the personel to drive them. One year we had more than the usual amount of snow and it caused all sorts of budgeting problems for the rest of the year.

Being from Texas, I haven't the foggiest idea how to drive in the stuff, so I stay at home lol. Gimme mud, I can drive. Snow and ice... no way jose!

When we first moved here to Germany last year, my son got all excited the first day he was to go to school because there was a LOT of snow on the ground (way more than VA ever saw while we were there) and he thought school would be closed. Boy was he bummed when I told him that over here they don't close the schools down when it snows like back home.
