What are your favorite quick to make baby blanket patterns? I like :knit http://www.crochetcabana.com/stitches/ltc-diag-box-st.htm and :hookhttp://www.bevscountrycottage.com/maryafghan.html

I have just been hit :eek with a challenge to spend over 300 hours by February 28, 2007 making and/or collecting baby blankets and would like ones that work up quickly. :help

Also if anyone feels inclined to donate squares or blankets (minimum 26 inches) I'd be happy to accept the help :tup The blankets will be donated to a local Project Linus chapter.

That Cabana pattern is nice!

I think the quickest baby blanket would be a large granny. Not granny squares, just start a granny and keep going until it is the right size. I recently made a light pink premie blanket this way.

Cuddles has some nice patterns that are simple. Just remember to change stitch designation if you're used to U.S. crochet. Their trc is out dc etc.

Project Linus has some nice, simple patterns also.

A large granny would indeed make a nice blanket, worked with a small hook though so the holes aren't too large for baby to poke his fingers through. A V-stitch pattern would also work, same note (use a smallish hook).

Something similar to this one, but larger (just increase using the multiple)

Also, the Nonyghan is only 6 squares and a face. Quite quick and kids like it. Pat Lile's Bearghan, which is very similar (my adaptation was done with permission) has side half grannies to make it more afghan-like. I may do that at some point, but don't have any now though I have thought about how I'd want to do it.

Good luck with your project!

Thanks to all for their ideas. I started a rectangular granny last night using this pattern which I like much much better than the one with the straight line down the center.

My favorite is from the Project Linus website. It's the "Crocheted Blanket Pattern" that doesn't have any holes. I've made at least three of these, and they work up pretty quickly. This was even my sister's first crochet project, so it's fairly easy to do. I don't have my notes in front of me, but I think I used a G hook and sport weight baby yarn. My starting chain was at least 152 for a baby-size blanket using those materials.

Is my favorite quick baby blanket. I can make one in 6 to 8 hours, depending on the number of interruptions I am blessed with >grin<.

You can also use regular homespun or RedHeart Baby clouds with this pattern, just reduce your starting chain to 66.

I've even made this in stripes, when I didn't have enough of one color to finish.

I'm going to use this pattern to make some patriotic blankets for Our local Project Linus participation in the TAPS program.

Here's a link to a pattern I'm making right now for a co-worker who's having a baby. I got the pattern from one of the Project Linus links. It goes quickly. If you click on the link in my signature for my photo album, there's a picture of the work-in-progress at the end.

Lisa,

I'm totally in agreement with you on the Victory Blanket. It is SO easy to make and if you do it in a chunky yarn it works up even faster! Here's my latest, done in Caron's Simply Soft with two strands on an "M" hook. Instant baby blanket. :)

This is one of my favorites for Project Linus blankets! It's interesting enough where you won't get bored, but easy enough where you can have this as a "take along" project.

I knit and crochet for Snug Hugs for Kids in Illinois. My favorite baby afghan is also the Sideways shell.

I buy the Jamie Classic worsted yarn from Smiley's. It works up fast and even, and I like the colors.

I usually get 1 skein of all six colors and 2 skeins white, per afghan. I just do 1 skein color, 2 rows white, 1 skein color, etc. and then add a white border with a sc color border around that.

Just good ol' fashion crocheting for when you want to keep busy, make something useful, but don't want to think too hard. :garden
