What does this look like?

buggaboosmommy

Question

I have loved this shawl for years..so now I finally find an actual photo of it instead of trying to kill my eyes looking at the movie. So..what does this look like to everyone? Knit? Crochet? And what stitch? Any ideas or help! I think it's a knitted basketweave? OH and if this photo is too big, just let me know..I'll resize! Donna

The shawl has been driving me crazy since I first saw the movie. I can't decide which method was used and it's one of those things that I just can't shake, lol. I bought some deep pumpkin colored cashmere yarn to try..so we'll see how it comes out, lol Thanks ya'll!

I was looking for something else, in a book I have and I found a CROCHET pattern for Basket Weave which looks VERY like the picture so I think I need to eat my words after saying it was knitted. It still may be knitted but the pattern I found looks very similar.

It even looks the same shape as it is a throw rug.

Have fun.

I knit and crochet and my vote, with my old eyes, is on a knit basketweave pattern. But, as we are all needlework crafters and having such a hard time deciding on which method was used, I say go for it in which ever method you choose and it will turn out beautifully! I'd love to see your finished piece.

Well, it could be Tunisian Basketweave Stitch. :lol Just to complicate things further. (Ran across this today in one of my stitch manuals.)

Bottom line, though, you can do it in pretty much whatever medium you want, be it knit, crochet, or Tunisian/Afghan crochet.

:think I think it is knitted using a rib stitch in the Basket Weave.

:hook You could do it in the crochet basket weave if you only crochet, it will just be a little thicker so use a finer yarn.

:cheer Hope this is a help.

Hi Donna,

That stitch used is called the basket weave stitch. Here's a link that has a small pattern you can practice with to learn the stitch.

Hope this is helpful to you.

So you think it's the crocheted version?
