What to make for little girls?

Recommended Posts

I have 2 niece's with birthday's in January. One will be 5 the other will be 3. I'm at a loss for what to make them. I've made them scarves and hats, poncho's and purses. I need to make something by next week so it has to be something simple any ideas?:hook

You can make them simple skirts very quickly. Get their mom to measure them around the waist and the length from waist to knees. Add about 1/2" to the waist measurement, and that's the length of your starting chain. Pick a simple stitch pattern & it'll work up very quickly, especially in worsted weight yarn. You can make a straight skirt, or the simplest way to increase is to simply bump up a hook size. You can do just about anything for trim. For the waistband, do a repeat of 1hdc, ch 1, sk 1 st around the bottom edge of the starting chain, and make a chain-stitch drawstring. (You can do an elastic waist too if you want.)

Or, if they're girly girls, you can make them muffs out of eyelash yarn (Bernat Disco is wonderful yarn & not that hard to work with). That'd be pretty much just a tube of yarn. Purses would work too. If you can make a hat you can make a purse. Either make it like a hat with a space for a drawstring like I mentioned above, or make a tube, sew the bottom, & crochet ch st handles. Or you could even make a purse out of 1 granny square & 2 plain squares (1 plain to put behind the granny, so treasures don't fall out).

Can you tell I've got daughters? :hook

Danielle, my two granddaughters, 8 and 4, absolutely LOVE hair things. Barettes with cute flowers and hearts, some with strings hanging down, are very popular with all the girls in Sammi's school. Headbands are also great. And what about some cute cheap T-shirts that you've edged with crochet in different colors? You could add a few motifs too. Trimming the bottoms of a favorite pair of jeans is also a good option. I once bought some plain halter tops at Wal Mart and sewed all kinds of colorful character buttons (from Michaels) all over them. They were a big hit!

Depending on how many purses you've made, you could always make more. My two year old daughter and my 6 year old niece always want more.

This is one of my favorites to make them:

I make it in whatever scrap yarn in girly colors I have. I've even modified it a little to make matching mini doll purses.

For the five year old you might, depening on how she is, make the lip balm holder:

Here's a cute button bracelet you make in girly colors. You could make them each several. Remember to modify it to fit them:

How about teacups:

Watchbands, my two year old loves her Star Wars watch even though she can't tell time:

I have more for you. :)

Here's a cute ladybug or bubblebee purse. I've made several of the ladybug, without the fuzz/fur, and they've all been big hits.

Fuzzy edge purses.

  • 2 years later...

I second the Amigurumi. If you know how to crochet in the round, you can make up a KristieMN one in no time. I have yet to make an animal that my 3 year old doesn't want to steal. I made a pig last week and it is missing all of it's legs because she stole him and claimed him before I could even put the legs on:hook

Look up KristieMN on here and she has a website up with free pattern Amigurumi

Have you considered crocheting bathing suits? I crocheted two identical bathing suits for a 4 year old and a 6 year old girls. The Theme was breakfast. Sunny side up eggs, hash browns and tied together with bacon.

Check out my blog to see.

Enjoy

Amigurimi is a good idea because it really is fast and simple. They have really good patterns at the lion brand site. I got a lot of patterns from there. Since they are so young finger puppets might be cute too. I found a lot of patterns for them. You can just do a search and you'll find some. I hope I helped.
