Cable purse - a variation

Here's my take on the cable purse with wooden handles. The handles I had were quite different, as you can see, so the attachment method had to be modified. I tried doing the tightly-wrapped method, but because of the beaded-look handles, it just wasn't working out. I think this looks ok.

How did you do that 'cable'? I like your variation. It is hard to find bangles anywhere. I found a couple, but not the thick ones. I think I might have to order them online, someone had a link under that thread for somewhere you can order them.

To answer questions:

 

The best instructions I found for how to do the cables are these

http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa042603.htm. I just did them over seven stiches instead of four (I like odd numbers... call me crazy.) I think these instructions are the most clearly written I've seen.

 

Yes, I lined the bag in a funky fabric. I just traced the finished bag, sewed it up and tacked it in. Took about 15 minutes, without a sewing machine. Seriously.

The handles, fabric and ribbon I had on-hand (I have a lot of crafting stuff. It's out of control.) I originally got them at www.jcarolinecreative.com, one of my favorite websites of all time.

It took me about 3/4 skein of Wool Ease - It probably would have taken the whole skein if I had wrapped the handles as in the other versions.
