Since I was 7 years old.
  1. I can't believe it's already been a year! My husband and I want to extend our thanks for your emails, messages of encouragement, and continued support from Crochetville members. To help us celebrate the first year of Oruaka, we are extending a 10% off sale (USE COUPON CODE: YEAR ONE) His shop can be found here: http://www.oruaka.etsy.com
  2. What a rare treat I have today! Snow fell on Alabama…and ICE, so NO WORK TODAY…yippee! William and I were ill prepared for the storm because we had been immersed in a home renovation project that took a while longer than expected. A newly renovated office (laminate floors, paint, new desk, etc.) and new floors in the kitchen. This is the first morning that we were able to sit at our new workspace, clad in pj’s and sipping coffee…the beautiful snowy view from the patio was like the reward for all the hard work. Although it is still far from being completed, at least the computers are back up. I suggested to him…”You should have a snow day sale today”. He chuckled, and I think he dismissed me because he continued doing whatever it was he was doing. I reminded him that he never paid up on the bet that he lost wherein he stated LAST MONDAY, “This floor will be done TODAY.” He sheepishly looked at me again. “You owe me…AND you had ALL WEEK and still didn’t deliver what you promised on Monday”. So…long story a little shorter, my husband will be providing 15% off your purchase of tree branch and exotic wood buttons today . These buttons look so great on hand knit and crochet items. His shop can be found here: http://www.oruaka.etsy.com. Please use Coupon Code JAN10SNOWDAY to receive your 15% off today only!
  3. Good idea...they are called "throw" pillows, so whichever way it lands I guess. I think it'll look better with another one adjacent to it facing the opposite direction...it just took so long to finished, I'm not ready to start another one yet, I'm working on 2 other projects right now.
  4. I started this last Monday, a gift for myself and my living room. I had William to make the buttons for me (of course). This took longer than I thought it would take, but it's a pretty solid stitch pattern with great bobbles...the texture is eye catching. I love the way it turned out, but not sure which side should be the front.
  5. Here it is...finally put the trim round on (simple shell stitch). It is 88 rounds and fits on a king sized bed. I LOVE it, but like I mentioned, it's for my in-laws for Christmas. Can't believe I can cross off a gift item from my Christmas gift already...what a great feeling.
  6. Thanks...a co-worker bought the actual shrug from me today.
  7. Thanks anyways. I'm still trying to decide on yarn. I think I'm going with the Caron Simply Soft on this one. Hoping someone joins me on this one...I've got a lot of squared in my future.
  8. Oh, yes! He has admitted that I'm right and that he should listen to me SOMETIMES!
  9. Beautiful...I love granny square blankets!
  10. Last year, about 2 weeks before Christmas, my mom requested a CALIFORNIA KING SIZED BEDSPREAD...WITH PILLOW SHAMS! Now, I may be quick, but not THAT quick! Not only that, but she wanted it to be ONE COLOR:rolleyes. I was thinking...BORING!!! I'll never finish it endless row after row after row...and pillow shams. So I sort of just shelved the idea until I could figure out how to get something like this done for her. After searching, I found the PERFECT PATTERN!!! Beautiful textured SQUARES...at least I'll be able to make a square here and there and eventually will have enough to complete this task, hopefully before Christmas! I think I'm going to use Simply Soft...anyone want to join me on this one, the pattern is pretty easy and looks AMAZING! http://www.coatsandclark.com/cgi-bin/MsmGo.exe?grab_id=61&EXTRA_ARG=GRAB_ID%3D59%00%26PAGE_ID%3D11274240%00%26HIWORD%3Dsunny%2B&host_id=42&page_id=4851968&query=sunny+spread&hiword=SPREADING+spread+sunny+
  11. I'm officially done adding all the color rounds on my king sized granny afghan which will be a Christmas gift for my mother & father in-law. I can't believe it's May and I can check an item off my list! I just need to do some sort of trim, I haven't decided on that yet though, but I think I'm going to trim in dark brown. I will have to post a pic later, I'm really happy with the way it turned out (and this is the first GIANT GRANNY square blanket I've ever done). I really want to keep it for myself.
  12. Shakara is an Igbo word which is roughly translated to mean something like “showing off” or “wanting to be noticed” or even as a type of “swagger/style”. The Shakara Shrug is an advanced beginner project that can be made to fit most any size. Beginners shouldn't shy away though, there are lots of pictures to help you along the way. The pattern can be found in my Etsy shop (link below).
  13. I just added this as a FREE pattern on my blog http://mssunflwr.blogspot.com/2010/05/oruaka-slouchy-hat-and-cowl-set.html ENJOY EVERYONE!
  14. I think it looks great so far...keep stitching! Only got about 2 rounds done this evening after work and noted that it took close to an hour to complete one round. It just about covers the surface of my king sized bed...maybe about 20 more rounds and it's done. Actually purchased about 2 more skeins of yarn yesterday also (bright yellow & lavender). Now I'm realizing that my scraps may not complete an entire row...I'm trying to do each row a different color and not combine more than one color per round...maybe on my next one I'll be a little more flexible to make it even more "scrappy looking"
