Abbreviations:

Ch = chain

sl st = slip stitch

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet

dc = double crochet

tc = triple crochet

3tccl = triple crochet cluster

ch4p = chain 4 picot

rs = rice stitch

 

Special Stitches:

 

3 Triple Crochet Cluster Stitch: Make 3 triple crochet stitches in indicated loop or stitches keeping last loop of each triple crochet on the crochet hook, thread over and pull through all loops on the hook at once.

 

Rice stitch: Chain 4, 2 dc in 1st chain of chain 4.

 

Cedar Rapids Snowflake: This snowflake got its name because it was dreamed up while visiting my daughter who lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

 

Chain 6, join with sl st in 1st ch to form ring.

 

Round 1: Ch 2 [counts as 1st dc], 17 dc in ring, sl st in 2nd ch of beginning ch 2. (Total of 18 dc)

 

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same space, *4 rs, dc between 1st and 2nd rs of the 4 rs made, 1 rs, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc,* repeat around ending with sl st in 1st sc.

 

Fasten off, starch, and block.

 

October 2009 Snowflake:

 

Ch 4, sl st in 1st ch to form ring.

 

Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), 11 dc in ring, sl st in 2nd ch of initial ch 2. [Total of 12 dc]

 

Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc and ch 2), *dc in next st, ch 2,* repeat around ending with ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch of initial ch 4.

 

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, *[1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc] in ch 2 space, sc in next dc, ch 3, sc in next dc,* repeat around ending with sl st in initial sc.

 

Round 4: *Sl st in hdc, ch 6, sl in 3rd ch from hook, ch 3, skip dc, sl st in hdc, sl st in sc, ch 4, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, ch 1, sl st in sc,* repeat around.

 

Fasten off, starch, and block.

 

November 2009 Snowflake:

Ch 5, sl st in 1st ch to form ring.

 

Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), 2 dc in ring, *ch 2, 3 dc in ring,* repeat 4 times, ending with ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch of initial ch 2. [Total of 6 sets of 3 dc]

 

Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), dc in each of next 2 dc, *ch 3, dc in each of next 3 dc,* repeat around ending with ch 3, sl st in 2nd ch of initial ch 2.

 

Round 3: Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), dc in each of next 2 dc, *ch 5, dc in each of next 3 dc,* repeat around ending with ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch of initial ch 2.

 

Round 4: Ch 3, tc in each of the next 2 dc keeping the last loop of each tc on hook, thread over and pull through all loops on the hook at once, ch 4, insert hook back through the loops at the top of the cluster stitch just made, thread over hook and pull through all the loops on the hook at once, *ch 5, sl st in 3rd ch of the ch 5 loop of previous round, ch 4, sl st in sl st, ch 5, 3tccl in next 3 dc, ch 4, insert hook back through the loops at the top of the cluster stitch just made, thread over and pull through all loops on the hook,* repeat around, ending with ch 5, sl st in base of the picot at the top of the initial 3tccl.

December 2009 Snowflake:

 

Ch 6, sl st in 1st ch to form ring.

 

Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1st dc), 17 dc in ring, sl st in 2nd ch of initial ch 2. [Total of 18 dc]

 

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same sp, *ch 4, skip 2 dc, sc in next dc,* repeat around ending with ch 4, sl st in 1st sc.

 

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same sp, *[1 hdc, 4dc, 1hdc] in ch 4 loop, sc in sc,* repeat around ending with sl st in 1st sc.

 

Round 4: *Ch 5, sl st in next sc,* repeat around ending with sl st in sl st of previous round. These ch 5 loops will go behind the stitches of Round 3.

 

Round 5: Ch 1, sc in same space, *[1 hdc, 1 dc, 3 tc, (ch 3, sl st in 1st ch of ch 3) 3 times, sl st in top of last tc, 2 tc, 1 dc, 1 hdc]in ch 5 loop, sc in sl st between loops, ch 3, sl st in sc,* repeat around ending with sl st in 1st sc, ch 3, sl st in same sc. The base of these stitches will lie behind the stitches of Round 3 giving the snowflake rose petal effect.
