two doilies

Here's a picture of the August 2003 doily I just made for my sister:

 

and 2 pix of the watermelon doily from the latest issue of "Country Woman" magazine:

 

The watermelon's supposed to have, like, 75 daisy stitch black seeds sewn on, but I decided that since I had to end off every one (because the black thread was showing through the crochet on the back), mine would be a seedless watermelon!

I am thoroughly enjoying making doilies out of thread for some archaic reason--my toddlers crack themselves up throwing them around the room like frisbees.:<>

I like your doilys you did a good job I really like the first one. ..... I am into doilys now as well and crocheting working on them in between 5 other projects.

 

I am still learning to use this board its very different.

I know...we definitely need a crocheting one... although we'd have to take a poll about whether the emoticon used the pencil hold or the knife hold! I don't think anybody on this board makes emoticons, or we would have already talked them into making one for us.

Thanks Rachel! I hold my crochet hook the knife way. Always have always will. I truley believe the pencil way gives you more wrist pain My aunt has crochet many years and holds her crochet hook the pencil way and has many problems with her wrist. I hold mine the knife way and have no problems after all these years.

 

Why not make 2 crochet smileys one each holding the crochet hook I really dont think it would show how the smiley is holding the hook. As long as the smiley is holding 1 hook is all that matters and of course gotta have yarn!

I hold mine the knife way too. I have friends that crochet "pencil style"--I just can't see how they do it!

hi i hold my hook the "knife" way also. another name for it is the european way. i have a friend who is from france and she said that is how all the woman over there hold their hooks. must be a good way as i have been doing it for over 40 years and no problems with Carpel Tunnel or anything. glad to know i am not alone!!!! i just joined this forum a few weeks ago and am still learning how to navigate my way through it!!!!LOL: hope you all are having a great day the doilies are beautiful ! vicki:))
