I need color help!

jessicali

Question

I am planning a trip to Hobby Lobby once I receive a payment into my account. I will be getting the yarn for this afghan --->  http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/eat---play---sleep---repeat-baby-blanket  <--- And only that yarn!

I know I will get at least 1 skein of white, but as for the main 4 colors, I am stuck on what to get!! I need suggestions!

This afghan will be for a 1st birthday for my cousin's baby BOY.

I am awaiting a message from his mom to see what his nursery colors are, and whether or not she wants it to match!

That's a toddler sized blanket.  I'd stick with the Red Heart so it doesn't get ruined.

I'd wait to hear back from the Mom first.  If it's going to be a crib/bed blanket then I'd go with the room colors.  If not - I'd go with fun ones.

If you do go with primary colors, don't forget yellow! Pulls it all together. Then you can use the white as a trim.

Cute pattern!

If you want to use the primaries, that would be red yellow and blue. Then for the fourth, i'd add a secondary color, green.

There are several online color scheme generators where you can play with colors to see what you like.

hi jessica,

My choices would be varied as well, all good suggestions up there, I would definately include a blue, and of course the white, the others, depending on what color blue you decide on, would either be primary or secondary, or a combo of the two. Sort of a rainbow theme.. You won't need the help once you get there, things will just click in for you, LOL   good luck!

Heard back from mom & she said she doesn't care if it matches the nursery. I had originally thought about doing Red Heart with Love or ILTY. Would RHSS be better?

personally I would use one of the softer yarns, With Love or ILTY or similar.  I find Super Saver to be very stiff and scratchy and it doesn't soften up with washing/fabric softener for me.

Have you seen this site for color inspirations?

http://design-seeds.com/

It gives complimentary color palettes that are based on photographs.  I really like using it to get an idea of what colors go well together.

Here are a couple combinations that I think would go really well for a little boy with that pattern:

This was my first thought!! I'm doing my first c2c right now with what I am assuming to be RHSS - It just has that thick stiff feel, KWIM? I think I'll stick with ILTY! Getting yarn on Monday for this one! (Not sure if it's nation wide but our Hobby Lobby is closed tomorrow)

So I got the yarn today & I bought the following colors;

ILTY Orange

ILTY Yellow

ILTY Limelight

ILTY Peacock  (I already had this at home.)

Also ILTY white so I could use that as the border.

I hope this turns out well.

Hobby Lobby is closed throughout the nation on Sundays, to allow their employees to observe the Lord's day.

I just actually got to go in Hobby Lobby just last August when we moved, so I wasn't aware of that! But that's a pretty cool thing for them to do! I believe Chick Fil-A does the same!
